LOL No! My golden's have been swimming with me and the rest of our family for many, many years. Just make sure you rince the dog off after swimming with clean water! They loved swimming in the pool and looked forward to getting hosed off too!
To the above poster. If you have a good filter and a good skimming system then their swimming in the pool is no problem. I taught all my Goldens to stay away from ths sides of the pool and to climb the stairs them selves to get out to the deck! I have never had a problem in the 30 years my Golden's have been in the pool.

Chlorine can be bad for their coats so you should rinse them off after. They should be shown where to get out of a pool. And they should be kept separated from the pool with a solid fence when you are not around - they may drown without assistance. And many dogs have fallen through pool covers not knowing that they aren't solid.

Could be a bit hard on your pool filter with the hair depending on type. To deal with that, place a new tennis ball in each of the pool's skimmer baskets to collect it.
Chlorine can be hard on a dogs skin. So I would recommend hosing them off after. And you generally don't want chlorine getting in their eyes. But otherwise shouldn't be any problems. Oh, you might want to rub some lanolin into te hair, pure stuff or just about any hand lotion, just a little though. You don't want to turn them into a grease ball.

cut back on the pool chemicals and it will be fine, but watch the dog in the deep end of the pool, dogs can drown easily in a swimming pool, goes under, and no way for baby to get out, unless owner helps out, or shows them the stairs...be careful...

If your dog likes to swim it is ok, but be sure that it does not dry out his skin....also my dog got an ear infection so he will not swim in a pool again

Like the poster above stated watch the chlorine level. Too much chlorine will have a bad effect on your pooch. Never take a dog in a hot tub, the chlorine levels are higher.

Hmmmmmmm - not for me
but if you do
Need to fence the pool off so the dog has no access
while you are away
Have a friend who has had two golden retievers
jump the hedge to get into the pool - and forgot how to get out
and he had to get them off the bottom
bad

Not at all. I have had many canine pool companions! But please remember to shower them off afterwards. Chlorine is no more harmful to them than it is to you but you don't want to sit around in it and neither does your pooch!
