I simply see it as two joined as one. That's not really the denotation of it of course, but that's what I see from it.

The balance of life in ALL ways. The core meaning is that an opposite of everything must exist in order for anything to BE to begin with. Many good and basic examples have already been given, but there are a million more, but less thought of layers to the ying/yang concept as well. for example: what would it mean to say something "floats" if NOTHING ever "sank"?

It's like staring at existence, right in the eyes. God and Satan in my religion is the Yin and Yang of life. Satan is God's equal as well as his opposite in my eyes. Note: I am not Christian, nor do I mean any offense to any religion. But in my beliefs, the Yin and Yang are the symbol of life. Such as inhale, exhale. Every breath is ironic as it is a contradiction.

Without the righteous, there could be no evil, without evil, there could be no righteous. There are always two sides to everything, not necessarily right, not necessarily right.
