"Social butterfly" and "class clown" are the best I have, and they are definitely not good enough. I want something that means a person who does what ever it takes to be the center of attention, whether that's excel at sports or be a hypochondriac.

Not sure why the question is in etiquette - sounds like a psychological problem.

My father was the life of the party, and loved to be the center of attention. He was also narcissistic and immature.

A narcissist is one who needs attention to be focused on himself or herself. It comes from the idea of "self love" taken to an extreme.

Does that fit?

i've got seen it in little ones the place they are actually not getting the attention they crave from their very very own parents. yet even inspite of the undeniable fact that, i've got seen the place the parents provide them each and all the attention they so crave, so anticipate others to achieve this as nicely. the must be known is a capability play.

Maniac Attention Seeker in Society(MASS)

Anyone who is too much obsessed for a wrong think is certainly a Maniac, here the maniac seeks attention. But if a person who was neglected from childhood seeks attention, he cannot be blames, then this person is just normal, and he can change himself.

Self-centered is quite accurate; a self-centered person thinks the world revolves around him and has no empathy for others around himself.

A person with Histrionic Personality Disorder! It might not be true, but you evoke a better reaction when you tell one of these egotistical idiots that there's something medically wrong with them.

you are familiar with the saying,

fools names and faces like to be seen in public places

but when you have someone who puts their nose into all things, (fitting above) but also crashing parties and generally known to all people the term is

gadfly

paris hilton, bill clinton, and others are gadflies, putting their nose into situations that they do not belong just to draw attention to themselves and removing it from all others.

A narcissist--someone so in love with themselves that they think of no one else. And this is an actual psychological problem!
