Intelligent thought inevitably leads to atheism - pride has nothing to do with it, as far as I can tell. Agreed?

I totally agree. I found that my atheism took away some of my pride. I realize just how insignificant I am. Look at the night sky with a telescope and you will feel really small.

Your opinion is great for you and I do respect that.

Why did you not stop with these words ""...it is very sad that one would chose to burn " in your question?

In my understanding the view of an Atheist is that there will be no burning. Do I understand wrong?

My point is if there will be no burning as viewed by an Atheist, what is the difference if it is pride or intelligence? The Atheists have nothing to worry about at all in their belief.

My last thought is on the word Intelligence. It is defined in part as:

The capacity to acquire and apply knowledge.
The faculty of thought and reason.

Is it your view that one will burn maybe for having a given ability of which is the results of genetic characteristics?
Is it not better to see that the "pride" which is the results of the using of the capacity to acquire and apply knowledge or
the application of thought and reason.would be a better reason to burn since the display of pride is sourced in and revealed by an act which one does have control over.

Do have a great day and do consider the two definitions from the American Heritage Dictionary.

Pride often leads one to assume more intelligence than is possessed. Neither pride nor intelligence are, by themselves enough. Intelligence doesn't necessarily lead to atheism. Have you read any of C S Lewis' books. He was extremely intellectual and gifted in thinking. His attempts to disprove the Bible and Christianity lead to his adoption of Christianity. He was not some lightweight fribble who couldn't hold his own in an intellectual discussion.

Have you read the Bible for yourself? I have and it is wonderful and amazingly consistent. I find that many "atheists" on Yahoo Answers have never read any part of the Bible. They seem to base their opinions in reaction to some lousy examples,of people, who said they were Christians but didn't treat them well.

Intelligence doesn't lead to Atheism. There are people of high intelligence of all religions. Pride doesn't lead to Atheism either though. It is just what the people believe after thinking about it. It doesn't mean they are right, though. Because other equally intelligent people reach other conclusions after thinking about it. I don't think people burn just because of their beliefs. Jesus stressed actions when asked about heaven. He never said, "You must believe a, b, and c." He told about what to DO. Give to the poor, be good.

I don't agree. There have been some very intelligent Christians.

Famous scientists who believed in God:
Nicholas Copernicus (1473-1543)
Sir Francis Bacon (1561-1627)
Johannes Kepler (1571-1630)
Galileo Galilei (1564-1642)
Rene Descartes (1596-1650)
Isaac Newton (1642-1727)
Michael Faraday (1791-1867)
Gregor Mendel (1822-1884)
William Thomson Kelvin (1824-1907)
Max Planck (1858-1947)
Albert Einstein (1879-1955) (Not the Christian God, but a creator God)

It's pride...I do know because I walked my own walk and did my own thing (even while I still yet believe, but did not follow) It was not until I was humbled that I began to see the spirit of pride I had and I opened myself up to be changed from the inside out.

Intelligence in and of itself doesn't lead to atheism, rather Critical thought, introspection, and specifically questioning the god concept by intelligent, critically thinking people leads them to atheism.

Well, I agree, But see, the Christians have this book that tells them it's pride. And they believe. Pretty much believe everything in that book they do.

Hubris (no longer hubris satisfaction) is inflated satisfaction or conceitedness. it fairly is the form of satisfaction that fairly annoys others! once you spot it interior the movies, this can be purely in the previous that guy or woman slips on a banana dermis or falls down a manhole. Then it could carry approximately schadenfreude...

IMHO, intelligent thought inevitably leads to belief in Life. Life = God. And life doesn't require you to believe in it. It just IS.

No burning involved ;)
