Sorry, you are stuck wi710th the barrel that came on it! One of the cost cutting methods to make the 710 and the 770 BTW cheaper was to attach the barrel such that it cannot be removed. The average hunter shoots 20 rounds in a year (15 at the range if they are lucky and 5 at big game if they are unlucky to place the shot correctly) over a 50 year service life, that is 1000 rounds which is well under the 3500 rounds or more needed to wear out the barrel of a 710. Find a good lightly used Model 700 in 30/06 and sell the 710 to help pay for the 700, you will be forever thankful when you see the accuracy and workmanship of the Model 700.

First off there is no such thing as a "Cheap" Heavy Barrel..Remington Firearms doesn't make one to fit your Remington Model 710 so you will have to look at other Custom Barrel Suppliers/Makers. Shilen,Hart,Douglas,E.R. Shaw, just to name a few..These are expensive and you will have to have a Gunsmith do the re-barreling and headspacing for you..In addition you will have to either buy another stock or pay to have yours adapted to fit the new heavy barrel you plan on installing.Something to consider before you spend any money.....

There's nothing "wrong" with the 710. It worth the money however you should replace the mounts. The Stevens brand (the old savage rifles pre-accutrigger) has a manufacturer price of about $330 for the rifle. I think it will much more accurate than the remington. I'm also hearing very good things about mossburg which is at the same price as well

Not sure what you mean by "Cheap" but there are plenty of good barrel manufacturers around. I prefer a HART on my coyote gun but the CRITERION on my varmint rifle is great also. I have 3 different DOUGLAS barrels with no complaints also. If a 700 barrel would fit then try HS Precision for a take-off barrel. good luck.

Hunter got it right. The 710 does not shoot poorly because it has a light barrel, it shoots poorly because it is a budget gun. I've used BB guns with less slop in the action and a more ridgid stock.

If your goal is to find the cheapest heavy barrel, you may end up with one that doen't shoot as well as the one you have now........Just because a barrel is heavy doen't mean it will shoot well.
