This life is the time to prepare to meet God. This life is the time for us to perform our labors. This life is the time to prove to God that we will obey Him, this earning us a spot in Heaven.

- What is life?
A. Life is a complex and peculiar set of standard chemical reactions encapsulated in an "organism".
B. Life is an opportunity. For anything, for doing something great or something small, something important, or nothing at all.
- What is the purpose...
A. To breed, to grow, to expand, as any other form of life.
B. Philosophically speaking: NONE. But I believe we are the ones to provide purpose to it, to use the opportunity to do something with human value: expanding knowledge, the arts, creating things, exploring, improving our condition.
- Were we really made...
Yes, for a few decades. In the meantime, have kids and make sure they will be able to have their kids. And we CAN (not must) use the opportunity to do beautiful human things.
- Was earth, and life on earth...
No. I don't believe (and have no evidence) that life was created for some purpose. It is simply here, the way it is.
Suffer it, enjoy it, use the opportunity it represents, die of it.
Also, supposedly, human life already existed before the existence of the separation between hell and heaven, according to the catholics.
If you lock a priest or anybody for his/her full lifetime in a jail, the Earth would still turn around the sun, the sun would still shine, the birds still sing. Therefore, what magic purpose has human life?
For me, at the same time life is absolutely void and meaningless, it is an opportunity to do incredible things.

The definition of life is way beyond our ability to definitively say, but I would very crudely describe it as organic material, cells or organisms which has the ability to reproduce itself.
No set purpose to human life, we have to come up with our own purpose.
Everything dies.
Life on earth wasn't created, it simply occurred. But my guess is you're looking for a more religiously-inclined answer.

Life is an adventure. We were made to contribute to the world and help but some choose to go down the wrong path and do the exact opposite. Every one has a purpose including you. going to heaven was a gift from god for believing him and taking him as your savior!

Life is the opposite of death.
Why must there be a purpose to life ANYWAY? And why necessarily human life?
Well... life wasn't CREATED so that question can't be answered. And Heaven doesn't exist.

Life for some was an opportunity to persecute minorities without Christianity there would have been no Holocaust. Only the singling out of Jews as the killers of christ teachings for centuries prepared the ground for the rise of Nazism based on the hatred of the Jew.

We were created to serve God.
If you do otherwise you will not be fulfilled in life. Would a coffee cup make a good flashlight? Success and fulfillment can only arrive in doing what we were made to do.

We were created to have fellowship with God, to love Him and enjoy his love forever.
We were created as eternal beings. There was no death before sin entered the world.
Because of sin, death entered. And disease. And heartache. And old age. And war. and every other wicked thing.
And we are now participants in a great cosmic struggle over men's souls.... There is an enemy who wants to destroy us as he is destined to be destroyed. There is a Savior who longs for us to turn to Him..... And we are smack dab in the middle.
Quite a story!
god bless
