Firstly I am not religious, I am intrigued any question about
religion gets a barrage of abuse. While I appreciate there are parts of religions people would disagree with. As I understand it suicide bombers etc not condoned in islam also regarding stoning are the family of victim allowed to ask for lesser punishment. Regarding Christianity what is wrong with "honour your mother and father" Love your neighbour" etc. Ref Creation vs Evolution. Does it really matter whatever happened its in the past should we not live for now and the future

The reason I said about honouring Mum and Dad is people who say religion is bad don't seem to pick up on these points.

It isn't the religions it's the people in them. And while I don't personally hate the people I do understand why someone would. And for the most part it has little to do with the past it has to do with what people are doing right now.

You don't honestly think people are angry about "honor your mother and father" do you?

Do you really want to know or are you like nearly everyone asking questions here, filtering out any answer that doesn't comply with your own preconception?

What I find most objectionable is being told over and over what I think and believe and why. I'm completely serious. There are literally hundreds of posts here every day from people who have never met me that claim to know better than I what I think.

You just made a sweeping generalization about people you honestly know nothing about. You have no idea whatsoever what people you've never met have or have not picked up on. Personally I think in some ways you just answered your own question. Although I doubt you'll pick up on it.

It has nothing to do with what is in a book. A religion isn't in a book. It's in how people practice it.

I just wish that people could live and let live.

I heard these words in a song once "there's enough religion in the world to make man hate one another but not enough to make them love".

Sad, but true.

I'm not religious, but I respect other people's beliefs and religions. Just wish others would too - there'd be alot less fighting going on in the world.

You answered it pretty well yourself, there's suicide bombers, non-suicide bombers of abortion clinics, the stoning of people for adultery, the holocaust, the child abuse at the hands of the catholic church, you name it.
I guess there's no reason to hate religion into the future. Until the next suicide bombing, or the next case of child abuse covered up by the church, or the next homosexual that's beaten into a pulp by intolerant religious people.

The problem with organized religion is in the judging of others.
what a difference this world would be without the judging.

Because religions were designed to control people. All religion
think that their own religion is the best religion because they
are stupid.

as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.

Man does not like being told what to do, esp. today. They believe they know what is best for them, though it only lasts a season. And mankind has only regressed with the barrage of knowledge it has attained in the last hundred years.

Maybe my antipathy stems from the apparent failure of any organised religion to deal with poverty, starvation, disease, war and injustice, but seem to prefer instead to get enthusiastically hatefully pro-active about trivial observances..like what we wear, our sexuality or the disparate interpretations of obscure texts
