I'm nearly 26, and I still talk to myself. Heck, I can have a full blown conversation with myself if I'm deep in thought, especially while shopping or driving. It keeps me sane. It's normal, don't worry!

This is just a guess ... but she is probably "pretending" or playing "make believe" ... a lot of kids do that. I did it as a kid. A lot of creative-types will do that. She has a little fantasy in her head about something ... maybe a pretend friend or something. It's nothing serious. It's just sort of a phase she is probably going through. If you are really concerned you may talk to your parents about it. Give it a little time though and I bet everything will be okay. I betcha she's really a normal average kid. If you do tell your parents and they think it's something more serious, have them talk to her school counselor .. but don't make this into a bad thing or she may beging to think she is not normal and get upset.

i'm not a parent, either. i have worked with lots of kids - and am an aunt.
my thought is that she might be figuring out things - sometimes, we all talk to ourselves when we are frustrated or are trying to figure out what to say to someone. maybe she is upset about something or worried.
as a big sister, the best thing you can do is exactly what you did - leave her an open invitation to talk to you. i wouldn't make a big deal out of it unless her behavior changes alot or if she starts to show signs that she is depressed or anxious. maybe talk with your parents just to let them know that you think something might be going on.
the bigger deal you make of it, the harder it may be for her to share with you. if everything else seems okay, the best you can do is be aware - - which you are.
she is lucky to have such a great big sister.

I know its normal for kids to talk to themselves.. She probably just needs to talk more to other people. My daughter is an only child and she always talks and sings to herself, and I know it's innocent. Keep her busy and talk to her every once and a while. I'm sure she's ok. I catch myself talking to myself about purchasing items at times.

Hello i am not sure what is wrong with your sister it is probably nothing but i just thought i would say that chlidren are mopre reseptive to ( not to scare you) ghosts. So her "pretended": friend is probably not pretend to her. she probably sees something that you can't. don't discourage her ask her questions like who are you talking to and Cool what does he/she look like and what not. Don't be mean about it or she won't talk to you. Well i hope this helped a it.

It's probably just a phase, in her mind, she might not be talking to herself, she might be reenacting something that happened that day, or picturing something she wants to happen.
But, repetition is a sign of a type of autism.

Are you sure she's troubled? I talk to myself sometimes. It's not always indicative that something is wrong, maybe it just helps her think
