two year olds are weird...and boys even weirder...(i have a seven year old girl and a boy about to turn four) NEVER EVER give in when he's just whining. If it works for him once he'll never forget and continue to do it. I don't know about the scared thing...could your husband possibly be the disciplinarian out of you two?...maybe the boy knows that. Don't give into the whining and just try to bear through the scared thing and keep your eyes open to anything that could possibly be scaring him

He's a smart two year old. Notice when there are other people around he's fine? He wants you and your husband to focus on him! Make a special time for each of you to spend with him and then a third time for the three of you together.

He will outgrow it.

My daughter is 4 and just started getting into this phase of "being scared" to sleep in her room, so she sleeps with a floor lamp and her tv on at night. Im hoping it is just a phase, which im sure it is since they do have alot of those

He's two. Some kids are just like this. My nephew was afraid of his own toys. My son isn't afraid of anything (also a problem).

i think he wants attention from you and thinks that this is the only way he he can get it. my son did the same thing!!
basically, wehnever he cries, just ignore him and put him on the step and tell him not to move or else you will have to take something away from him (like his drink or blankie) and only take it away fo r10 minutes if he doesnt obey, if he does, that is good
just remember to stay calm and DONT LET HIM CLING TO YOU and DONT BABY HIM!! that will only lead him to think that what he is doing is good!!

He does it cause he's 2! Just comfort him about it and then go on with life. He'll eventually grow out of it.
