ps3 all the way. The wii gets old too fast!

I would say it would depend on his age. The wii is more of a "family" or "kid" type of system. While the PS3 was designed to try to be an entertainment center. The harddrive in the PS3 makes it so you can save mp3's pictures, movies and not to mention play the Blu-ray discs. Sony put too many expensive components in it unfortunatly, which is why you see it costing so much. While i have had fun playing with the wii, I don't see it standing the test of time. It has last gen graphics, no hard drive, limited internet connectivity etc. The interactive part is very fun, but sometimes, a part of playing video games is getting to relax after a stressful day and not having to flap your arms around to play. It all depends on what type of person you are. The "casual" gamer or the "core" gamer. By the way, PS3 has a motion sensitive controller also (not as in depth as the wii's though) and a bowling game just came out which is a blast to play and is the same type of interactive feeling as the wii.

They are for different audiences. Wii is for all-family-fun elementary school fun. Your grandma or small sister will love it, but if you are into serious gaming, multiplayer, you want to have some LAN PC to PS3 connections and advanced technologies - PS3 is your choice. If you want some easy fun, simplified games with lo-fi graphics - Wii. If you like Marios - Wii, if you want GTA IV and Metal Gear Solid 4 - PS3. If you're into hi-end systems - PS3 is a great multimedia center (perfect for Smart Home concept).
In short:
Wii - it's like a family van (friendly and everyone will fit in);
PS3 - like a racing Jaguar (tough to drive, but when you'll get a hold of it - the sky is the limit).

Technically - PS3 is MUCH stronger, hands down.

Depends on what you want more.

A Wii is a party console. If you have a lot of friends over often the Wii is perfect. If you like to play alone I would go with the Xbox 360. A PS3 is just not at a reasonable price atm, since it has no good games.

Wii. PS3 only has two games currently out the capture my attention. All that have been announced that capture my attention along with those already out: 3(4 if you include GH3 which I'm getting for my ps2)
But, Wii does seem like more of a party system with some games that you can also play alone(Zelda, Galaxy, Fire Emblem) while PS3 seems more of an alone.

the ONLY thing the wii has on the ps3 is the interactivity and the price (thus the amount of sales over the ps3)

the wii is family friendly, interactive and i assume fun.
But it has the graphics of a ps2, it has some ok games but i think the interactive controls are only benefiting sport games... its still in the making i think.... i also think its a step back towards the old joystick days.. but hey thats just me...
the ps3 also has free internet access a wider array of games and the graphics are life-like. unfortunately it (ps3) is expensive tho.
personally i would go for the xbox360... (its just unfortunate you have to pay for net access)

Wii, don't waste your time with a ps3.
Hopefully you already have a 360 ,and if you don't forget both the wii and the ps3 and do yourself a huge favor and get you a 360.
Wii is really fun though, I think the graphics for the ps3 are mediocre at best.

I'd say wii is a more 'fun' console but if you want a game to spend hours on, getting through the story of a game then I'd recommend a PS3. But you can spend just as much if not more time on your wii.

the easiest question to answer to. =p Of course the wii is way better than the ps3. The wii is too fun to get out ruled by the ps3. I mean its way more popular than the ps3. Plus the ps 3 is HUGE!!! the wii leaves lots of space.

Price wise...wii.
I actually purchased a wii last spring and sold it this fall. The only thing I liked about the wii was that I could play old NES games on it. Otherwise, the overall gameplay in most games was lacking.

I would go PS3.
