I had this a few weeks ago it's not nice but nothing to get too uptight about. You will be numbed with a local first a small incision is made and then they will take samples with a scary looking needle but trust me you won't feel a thing. It clicks quite loudly when a sample is taken but that's about it and it takes all of 5 mins.
Get yourself a good non wired bra for afterwards as you may be a little sore and tender for a couple of days.
Even thogh the test results will take a week or so to come back, the doctor will be able to tell you on the spot if they think there is anything to worry about.
Good luck and I hope this helps because I find that the fear of the unknown is worse than the test itself.

If you are talking about them taking a sample with the needle ( aspirate I think it is called) I can tell you the following.
The biggest discomfort is from having to rest your breast on a plate so they ca position it so that the doctor can get to the area she wants to sample. They will be looking at an xray/ultrasound of sorts to target the area.
They will probably want to take a few samples. The actual taking of the sample itself is more uncomfortable than painful. It pricks of course but is tolerable.
How long it will take is difficult to say but shouldn't even be 1/2 an hour for the actual procedure.
Afterwords they wqill give you an icepack to keep on the breast to help reduce any inflammation.
As far as the results are concerned I heard from mt doctor within 3 days if I can remember correctly
Good luck and I wish you a good outcome

A needle biopsy is uncomfortable, but not in the extreme. No worse than getting a flu shot or the like. It is one of those things that IS easier if you relax. I've had several needle biopsies-they were all benign cysts. My doc does not even numb me first-just goes right in with the needle. He said "do you want two needle sticks or just one?" And I say one.
It took about a week to get results, but now I just tell my doc to call if there is a problem. Good luck...and be assured that about 90 percent of these are negative.

I did not have a shot before they put a needle in my breast. It wasn't nearly as painful as I expected it to be. Don't look at the needle. It is very overwhelming and frightening to see. That was the worst part. Keep your eyes closed. Much less stressful this way.

you're doing what you need to do to guard your self. it extremely is a lot extra desirable to get the biopsy and locate out for confident that it extremely is a benign mass than to allow it bypass and locate out it grew to become into maximum cancers. I had an atypical mammogram some years returned and had to bypass returned for extra perspectives - it did not bypass so a techniques as a biopsy. yet I completely comprehend the rigidity in touch once you have some thing occurring and don't comprehend what it extremely is. good now IMO your age and history are on your choose - i could suspect it seems to be a fibroadenoma, and not malignant. bypass and get it dealt with, and good success.

I had this in Sept.
First I had a fine needle biopsy, and I didn't feel a thing!!!! I hate needles and was really scared., then had a mammogram, followed by a ultra sound guided biopsy, the skin was numbed before this test so again I didn't feel a thing.
Good luck it really is painless!!!! I am a wimp and was so proud of myself that I coped.

You really need to get the download called Breast Health from Independent Achievement. It has totally put my mind in the right frame prior to diagnostic testing. So much so, that I no longer need diagnostic testing on my breasts! Good Luck.

Fine needle aspiration (FNA): A non-surgical form of breast biopsy in which a small needle is used to withdraw a sample of cells from the breast lump. If the lump is a cyst (fluid-filled sac), removal of the fluid will cause the cyst to collapse. If the lump is solid, cells can be smeared onto slides for examination.

Don't know too much about it, but you may get a needle biopsy and a mammogram.
Do whatever is necessary because it could save your life.
Hope everything is OK for you and wish you well.
