They do the same thing here. They don't really associate with anyone other than other muslims and/or people who come from the same countries as them.
Not sure if it's because they feel outcast from the rest of us(since the whole Iraq/Afghanistan wars), or if it's because they don't like us.
I never really got to know any of them.........because like you said, they segregate themselves from everyone else.
I'm sure if they associated with people more than just outside of their comfort zone, people would look at them in a better light. It doesn't help them when our government is suspicious of them already because of where they might come from.....but then on top of that, they seem very secretive and closed off from the rest of us, which doesn't make things any better.

People have a tendency to gravitate to areas where they are most comfortable. It's not isolated to the Muslims alone, the Irish did it, the Italians did it and the Hispanics do it. I would suggest though its not mentioned that every other ehtnic group to immigrate here did it as well. And it happens not only here but in any country that accepts immigrants. That's just the way it is. Some of those peoples have assimilated into the cultures they join but some don't.

In Dearborn MI They have formed a very large community on the east side of the city, just as other minorities often do. I don't think they are deliberately segregating themselves. When they move there, they move to a neighborhood where they can expect a culture more similar to their own. The east side also has halal butcher, Middle Eastern restaurants, mosques, etc that the west side doesn't have. It makes sense that they live near where they can get the goods they are looking for.

Good question..apparently not. I have read a serious sociological article which suggests that in US the culture of assimilation/integration is more favourable to community relations than multiculturism adopted in the UK and some of Europe. The perception is that although greater social/economic inequalities may exist in the US, race, colour or creed is not seen as a barrier to advancement. But for whatever reason muslims do not seem to concentr8 in particular areas of towns in America

They usually take over . Look in Miami . Not only muslims do this but also Cubans and others . They do not meld into the community but isolate themselves . They want to live in America , but then when they arrive set up their neighborhoods like they were in the old country

We usually don't. The biggest area of Muslims in America is in Dearborn, Michigan. They are concentrated there, but they hardly keep to themselves.
We do not have anywhere near the social services, social climate, or city structure in general for a group of people to come here and isolate themselves. Our country has been one of assimilation from the beginning. If any communities of Muslims attempted to come to the U.S. and shut themselves off from the rest of the country like they have in the U.K., they wouldn't last very long. Plus, for most people coming to the U.S. legally, you must prove that you have a job here and are willing to work, if you're of physical standing to do so.
We have the exact opposite problem that you have in regard to immigrants. Over in your neck of the woods, you have a bunch of people who come to your country and want nothing to do with you. Over here, we have a bunch of people who want nothing more than to be Americans, but many of them came here illegally, and we're trying to figure out how to accomodate them.

Don't know why you mentioned a religion here its all to do with them all speaking the same language and all being the same colour and the shops in their area selling the same kind of food,or, perhaps, they cant stand the smell of Christians or Sheiks or Jehovah's witnesses.
