i just got a Canon AE-1 camera, and I pretty much know how to use it. The only problem is, theres a little black button right next to the thing that you turn to put the film in, and I have no idea what that button does.
There is a picture of a circle with a line through it right next to the black button.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE :)

It sounds like the battery check button. Right next to it is the film plane indicator, which shows where the film plane would be for macro work--you could measure from there to the subject for critical work.
