question is, don't you think God will be disappoined? It seems that if I take pills, I have given in to the despair and it would be as if I'm telling God, "I trust the medicine more than your powers of healing."

I have always felt that antidepressants are in a different category than meds for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, etc. I have heard about the serotonin deficit idea, and I'm no doctor, I know I should trust my Doctor.....I know there is nothing in the synoptic gospels proscribing antisepressants, but I have always relied on God and friends to get me through the rough times in my life - and (I am not judging anyone here) I just FEEL as if I am indicating a lack of confidence in God by taking the meds....
I will seriously consider taking them and see what happens.....
Thank you for all of your kind words.

Take the medication, if not for your sake, then for the people around you.

Please - take the medication.

Depression is horrible; I personally know three people now on anti depressants and these medications have TURNED THEIR LIVES AROUND.

Depression is a medical illness, no less than flu nor chicken pox.

I would advise you to read up about all the medications so you are an informed patient. There are some good online sources that I recall my friends found helpful.

But take the medicine and you WILL feel better. Remember they take a few weeks to really start doing their magic; you may need to change the dosage but ONLY with your specialist's advice.

Hi Hon, {:-)

You know that God answers prayers in all kinds of different manners? Why would you think the gift of Knowledge God gave to the doctor to be useless? Nothing happens by accident. God knows that the human body is fragile and will fail. There is no way around that fact. Your earth body gets sick and will eventually die.. So, he sends his kids to school to be there, when one of his kids need it.. He provides this service for you, and you not using the blessing, he has given us is like a slap in his face. He heals in all different ways..

Oh, one more thing.. It doesn`t matter at all, which part of your earthly body needs medical help. Sick is : sick. If your heart is sick, it is sick. If your mental health has a problem, it is SICK.. Sick is: sick.. The body is made up of many parts, The brain is included in those parts. If the brain is sick> It is sick..

It is NOT ok, to ignore the holy temple of God. YOUR Body . You are to keep it holy and sound. A sick body needs maintenance.. So does the soul and the mind.. It takes all those, to be a whole.. Why do you think you know better than God does? Do you really think he wants you to suffer? He is your Dad and like all other Fathers, he wants you to be happy. I assure you if it takes a few pills to make you happy, GOD will NOT protest.. He created them..

Peace & God bless <><

Hon, God also uses doctors and meds to make us better!! There is nothing wrong with you taking medicine to get well! Let me put it to you like this! If you had a heart condition, would you think twice about taking a pill? Well, depression is no different than heart disease, it is an illness. That does not mean that you doubt God! He is with you, lean on Him!!! God bless you!!!

I understand how you feel because I dealt with the same thing and when I talked to my doctor about it (he is a Decon of a church I go to ) he said he would like to believe that God put people on this earth to have enough smarts to create the meds that might keep us from getting sicker and depression is a first sign of a nerves brack down and the antidepressants is just to keep us from getting sicker.

Absolutely not. I've been on anti-depressants and it's literally been a godsend. Would you not get surgery for a ruptured appendix? Not get antibiotics for an infection? NO difference. Please do not worry about it...take the meds and work through the process.

I read your update. Many people in my church take anti-depressants and we are evangelical. There is no shame (which may be a lot of it), pride that you don't want to rely on them, or fear that you are not relying on the Lord enough. None of those reasons should keep you from helping yourself get better. PLEASE believe that it is no different from other medicine, except that you MUST take other steps such as counseling in order to make the most of the meds. Email me if you want to ask more Qs -- I've been through this and have a lot of experience! God bless, and take care of yourself!

You are not letting God down. At times we must use temporary methods to meet a goal, and at the right time, we will not need a "crutch" so to speak. If you break a bone, you might get it set, and this is OK with God. So, if you feel the medication is what you need today, then it is. Tomorrow is another day.

In my opinion, there is something to be said for medication, and much to be said for God's healing power. But...no one lives forever in this world; we all eventually drop dead, (Fortunatley we have the hope of the resurrection, but we drop dead here.) I believe that God can and does heal all kinds of illness. But the healing he accomplishes here, in this present age, is largely to demonstrate his power and inject faith in those who are healed and witness the healing. The healed all eventually die, but in this life they are strengthened in their faith and can walk with God in the battle for the faith that all must fight while in the flesh.

Now, you may or may not do well with medication. If you can avoid it, all the better. How is your diet? Do you get enough B Complex vitamins for your nervous system? Did you recently have a severe loss, which would be followed by a normal period of depression? How long have you been depressed? There are many things to take into consideration in order to make a valid determination about whther you should use medication.

But let me warn you, if you use medication, God will love you still, and just as much, BUT you might have to take that medication for the REST of your LIFE. Once your body becomes dependent on it, it will remain dependent on it.

If you can discover an effective way to remain functional and reasonably healthy without medication, you will be doing well. If you need the medication, you should use it.

Doctors will not usually take the time to help you figure it out. God will.

Would a diabetic be disappointing god for not taking insulin? Would a person with high blood preasure disappoint god if they took medication?

Your disease is every bit as real and chemically based as theirs are. If you wouldn't blame THEM for taking medication, please don't blame yourself. Your body isn't producing enough serotonin. This medication will help the nerve endings in your brain with serotonin uptake. After 5-6 months, much of the time, a body will readjust its own serotonin levels and you won't need the medication any longer.

Here is a website for you to look at which explains the process: http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/publications/depression/treatment.shtml Please read the bit at the top of the page, under the heading of "medication" which should take you about 5 minutes to read.

Honey God created Dr's to help the sick, and depression is an illness just like a heart disease. He created pills to help you through. He will not condemn you for using them. they were made to help the ill. Just keep your faith in the Lord and take your meds. He wants you to be happy not sick and in pain. God Bless you and take care of you self. He will guide you through this illness. But you need the extra help he is providing you with. Be strong and keep the faith.

Take the medicine. You had faith to go to the doctor. I believe that we are to do what we can in the natural, and God will do what He will. Maybe he wants to use this doctor for your healing. It doesn't mean you will be on the medicine the rest of your life!
I will pray for you to have wisdom, and for wisdom for the doctor, and for your healing.
