Here is what I do, as my female Abysinnian Cat Natasha has the same habit. I keep a small spray bottle available in my kitchen and living room. When I catch her biting on my indoor plants, and I have a few large ones, I spray her with just water and she runs away, and no one is harmed...It will take about a week or so, but they soon get the idea and relate eating plants with getting sprayed...I worry about plants because some are poisonous and a cat or dog can get quite sick eating plants. Natasha is much better now and really has gotten out of the habit except for a few times she forgets until I spray her...Whooosh...off she goes. Cats hate water you know.

My cat eats all our plants up too. We've tried putting orange and lemon peels in the pots under the leaves/flowers/whatever. It worked for a while, but my cat's fat and tried to eat them -__- It's definitely worth trying though.
What we usually do, and this works pretty well, is get my cat some cat grass (or just grow some regular grass) or live catnip that you can get at Petco (Probably Petsmart too) and place it by the food dish. Putting dried catnip on something like a pet bed, scratching post or a corner your cat likes might distract them from the plants, too.

If its a poisonous plant, such as a poinsetta (which a lot of people have for the holidays) don't have one in the house. Cats often ingest plants or grass when they have a hairball in order to make them throw it up. As long as the plant is not harmful to the animal it won't hurt them to eat it once in awhile. If it becomes a major problem, don't have plants.

If you have cats, you have to take the time and responsibility to cat proof your home, which means dont keep any plants that are harmful to cats.
I myself only keep plants where the cats can never get them, just to be extra safe. You can hang them in baskets from the ceiling, or put them on top of tall furniture the cats cant climb.

Most pet stores have a spray especially for keeping animals away from plants. I have some and it works. Just spray it at the base of the plant.

Spray the leaves with white vinegar. Cats don't like the smell or taste and it shouldn't harm the plant.

It all comes down to being consistent... and you can't punish them unless you actually catch them in the act. I used a spray bottle of water to train my cats - they got a spray in the face if they were chewing on the plants or Christmas tree.

get a spray bottle of water and add a few drops of Tabasco sauce and spray the plant with it. usually the cat doesn't even try to eat it after that, the smell keeps them away
