Hello,

Is it worth it to book the hotel room at Atlantis (or nearby) if we are only on shore from 8a to 5pm (really 4pm to get back on time)? I would be coming off a Royal Caribbean cruise ship in the Bahamas. By booking a room we would have access to the water activities.

That would really be a waste of money. I have been on a cruise to the Bahamas, and to Atlantis.
If you are going on the Royal cruise- you can still take a water taxi over the Atlantis - or walk if your up to it. Do not take the shore excursion - it's not worth it.
You will be allowed to go through the Dig, and the aquariums, and you will be able to use the beach. You will not be able to go on the slides or in the pools.
You can also use the Casino at Atlantis if you want.
Booking a room for that amount of time would cost you well over $100 - and those slides and pools are just not worth that.

In my opinion it would be a big waste of money as in most cases the check in time is about 3:00 PM. There are parts of the aquarium and hotel that you can see for free and it is my understanding (not having been there yet) that you can pay a use fee to see and use other parts of the hotel.

Here's what I got from the hotel site:

Stopping off in Nassau on a cruise? Visiting Paradise island for the day?

Day visitors to Atlantis can embark on a Discover Atlantis Tour where expert “Navigators” guide them through the ancient city streets of Atlantis.

Enhancing the experience of this 11,000-year-old lost continent is ‘The Dig’. The Dig provides a unique excursion into a wondrous civilization where well-preserved artifacts and hieroglyphics provide evidence that Atlanteans possessed great technological and artistic prowess.

The Dig’s partially submerged archaeological sites are home to some of the world’s most exotic sea creatures including piranha, moon jellyfish, venomous lionfish, a resident manta ray and more!

The tour promises to reveal many other fascinating marine habitats showcasing over 70,000 sea animals representing over 250 species. Tour participants will have the opportunity to view one of the most incredible collaborations of art and architecture on the myth of Atlantis.

By purchasing the Discover Atlantis Tour wristband, visitors can explore The Dig and its exhibits as well as the Ruins, Predator and Water’s Edge Lagoons.

Discover Atlantis Tour wristbands can be purchased at the Temple of the Moon in the Atlantis casino.
Adults - $32, Children 4-12 years - $22

I don't think it's worth it.. but here's the real details.

You can book a room at either Atlantis, Comfort Suites or Ocean Club and get full access for up to 4 ppl per room. (2 ppl base and pay for 2 extra ppl). You can check in when you arrive, you don't have to wait until 3pm.. but you won't have a room, just a card to take to the towel hut to get your ID bracelets. These bracelets allow you FULL access to the property. Pools, Slides, Beach, Casino, Digs etc.

If you just want touse th beach, the cost is $62 pp. This allow ONLY access to the beach and use of the lounge chairs.
This pass, or a DIGS aquarium only pass, are available in the casino at the Kiosk.

Casino and marina village are open to the public.

Quite honestly, Atlantis is not one of the #1 waterparks in the world, and not really worth the money - in my opinion.
Waterparks in the states cost only $25-30 for this type of place.

There's lots better things to experience in the bahamas. snorkeling, boating, private islands, dolphins, stingrays, sailing, jetskis, forts and of the beach.
