My daughter and my nephew are the same age, 2 months apart, he watched all those videos and what not and at age 3 he was very much ahead of her. I can't honestly say it was due to the videos but they may have helped. Its hard to say. My daughter never saw any of the videos...

I thought the Baby Einstein movies looked silly and boring and never showed them to my daughter. I personally think the Noggin (NickJr.) channel is much better for children and my daughter picks up all kinds of things from the shows on it. She also loved Sesame Street when she was younger (she's 4 now). I don't think TV will teach your child to read but it helped her with vocabulary, speech, thinking skills, and memorization.

Well they don't seem that entertaining to us, but babies really do enjoy them. The music, colors, and shapes are a good exposure for your child. However, if he doesn't seem to be watching it (not focused on the t.v.), he's probably not getting anything out of it. Some kids do better with hands on activites such as those boxes they have to fit the shapes into.
hope i helped and good luck!
btw, i don't think the videos do anything better or make your kids smarter, they just expose them to different things just as any other learning toy.

My mom read somewhere that a study done with babies raised on Baby Einstein videos were not any smarter than their classmates once they got into school.

No, I actually read a report where they did research and found out babies that watch these videos, on average, are slightly less intelligent and developed than babies who don't. Babies learn from REAL HUMAN interaction. Videos just aren't the same. I think they aren't worth the money at all.

My son had a video different brand but didn't actually look at it until he was 15months. I don't see any reason to hook a kid on tv too early.

they will not make your kids smarter, but if you need to buy yourself 45 minutes to fix dinner then they are a good distractionary tool, and alot less annoying than an elmo video.
