Does it not seem sexist and imply that women are only worth a fraction of men?

Quite frankly it used to piss me off ( I am female my avi is male because i like the guy avatar stuff better then the frilly girl avatar stuff)

Like many other things in the bible though it that be interpretted in many different ways:

Sexist views- Adam was made after god's image , he was made first , eve was made second so in thus she is second rate. The rib is for child bearing purposes.

Equality views : It was by Adam's rib Eve was made because she is not beneath Adam or above him! Eve and Adam are life partners and Eve is made from the rib because they stand together side by side. Or you could look at it as that God used the rib as a DNA sample and just copied Adam only as a feminine version of him ; she and him are the same..

I used to look at it a put down on women but other people told me how they interpretted it and so I did not think it was so much a put down later on.

It egged me on though they allot of people used as a way to say that women are less then men.

I believe it is sexist if you make into being something sexist...Just kinda comes down to how you look at it.

it shows the role of man to a women...he is her wali, protector and sustainer. Adams rib means under his shoulder. In my view, when i hear about this i picture a couple a taller man holding his shorter beloved wife in his arms..of course obviously height doesnt matter :P thats just what comes to my mind when i read this

She would clean ,Cook Take care of his every need and never argue with him. Adam replied God that's great what will it cost me. God told him an arm and a Leg, well the rest is history.

The writer chose a rib because it wouldn't be missed as much as, say, a femur or a vertebra. The point is that she was made of the same stuff as he was, not the location.

The writers of the Bible were misogynists, plain and simple.

They were definitely not biologists.

From a biological point of view, it would be like twins bearing offspring. Remember that their genetics would have been identical. Those children would then also have identical genes which would be passed onto their children and so on.

Adams great-great grandchildren would have had 3 eyes and 16 fingers.

She was made from the rib in his side to be an help-meet and companion; not from his foot so that he could rule over her or trod her down; not from his arm, or head - so he could not rule over her by force or intellect. Eve was his equal, his partner, important team member.

The manuscripts say "curve". IMHO, it was the helix curve. God took famine DNA from Adam and created Eve.

Man's not missing any of his ribs.

It explains why we're so tasty.

It's completely allegorical but definitely sexist, men wrote the books and saw little real value in women.

No... the bible was pretty for women really, they could own land, inherit, they were encourged to earn money and be independant. Its only when christianity spread that people started making up their own rules.
Wow, Sam D sounds pretty angry!

let me explain, you know how some new phones come out and they have all these problems with it so they take the idea of that new phone and make it better. Well God decided that he wanted to make something better from that man and it became woman. SO we are just better ;)
