Im in college in which I have a Ford Taurus which has 140,000 miles on it. I really need a new car, but my parents won't buy me a new one, and my job just gives me enough money a month to get by on my rent for my apartment. What should I do?

It would be nice to know how old your car is. Did you want your parents to get you a "new" car as in brand-new? Or a new car as in less mileage car? Unless Santa bring you one it sounds like you're **** out of luck in the new car department. So what I would do is make sure your oil is changed every 2500 miles. Change your transmission fluid as scheduled. How long since your timing belt has been changed? It usually needs changing every 30 to 60,000 miles( I think depending on the make of car). It's not unusual for cars to get a couple hundred thousand miles these days. So yes what I'm saying is you've got to take care of the one you've got.

That's nothing, my family had one that passed through grandpa to father to kid. Then the kid got out of college and sold it to a friend of her family. Last I heard, it had something like 237K on it and still going strong. The engine has never been opened up. The only thing is, it has had good maintenance ever since it was new. Oil changes, and all the fluids changed. Tuned up at 100K miles, and the plugs still looked good.

Just keep up the maintenance and you should get through school with it.

good luck

Why do you need a new car? So your car has a few miles on it. It'll still be good for a few thousand more. Just keep it maintained well. Another posters says timing belt, but Tauruses (Tauri?) all have chain driven engines. So change oil, flush the tranny and change the filter and you should be good to go.
