I'm having a hard time starting it and the last two times I tried to start it, I heard a "clunking" noise and once I got it going I had a rough idle. I noticed that my coolant was REALLY low. I just topped it off and will check it in a while to see if there's a leak. There's no coolant on the ground so I hope it's not internal. I know it's not the battery and the oil isn't low. This is on a 1996 Thunderbird; any ideas of what it could be??

Roy, there's no residue on the dipstick, but there is some on the inside of the plastic coolant reservoir.

Pull out your dipstick and if see a cloudy residue, chances are you have blown a head gasket and that's where your antifreeze has gone.

Not good to run a car hot. Many places will give you a free radiator pressure test, to look for a leak. Check the oil too.

You might want to get a cylinder pressure check done on the car. It could be a head gasket problem.

Good luck.
