if this makes you feel any better, when my sister was diagnosed with cancer, I started having them constantly. It got so bad that I could not even be in a car or in a mall or store without feeling panic over take me to where I could just run out of my skin. It was horrible. The thing that helped me out was that I basically took one second at a time and tried with each breath to relax, breath properly and talk to myself at how things will be OK. I created a journal, sought help with talk therapy and met my panic head on. The biggest thing that helped me out was reading 2 books. I recommend these to anyone and no I did not write them.
1-Psycho-Cybernetics, A New Way to Get More Living Out of Life by Maxwell Maltz
2- Anxiety, Phobias, and Panic (Paperback)
by Reneau Z. Peurifoy (Author)
The other prime thing that helped me was and I want you to read this and feel it if you can. One time I had a really bad panic attack and I said to myself. OK I am panicking....Then I said, "Panic...have seat and lets get to know one another". I was in my car and I realized that the panic could not hurt me and that if I just dont fight it, that I can overcome it. The panic becomes the boogy man and the more you run from it the worse and stronger it becomes. If you realize that the panic has no power and that you give it its power it becomes less strong and you defeat it. Thanks for reading and I really hope you feel better soon. It isnt easy, but one last thing to remember. Millions of people feel panic. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!! This alone should help you know that things will be OK. If I and others have gotten much better without drugs...so can you! Good luck

This may sound terrible but I've had anxiety attacks since I was in the fourth grade.
I've never gone on any sort of medicationf ro it though because irronically I would not take pills because I believed I would choke and die...anxiety.
Anyway, the best thing I have found is diving into the first thing that can take your mind off those things that make ypu anxious. If I'm freaking out, I watch a movie I know I can crack up at. Anything that you know can take your mind off of it. If you can control your mind you won't have an issue. I am now 22 years old and maybe have a panic attack twice a year.

I don't think Dr's are what you need. They tend to recommend drug treatments [as they did in your case] without proper regard to the potential side effects. From someone who has dealt with them, I can tell you that when the situation that caused them stabilizes, they will go away. In the mean time, try to place yourself in whatever environment relaxes you. Another remedy I found helpful was breathing into a paper bag. Congrats on your child. It will all be worth it!

I'm not a doctor. . u don't say how long you were on the drug for?The longer one is on it . the mre difficult to come off. u are feeling withdrawls, and this is very scary but u will not die from it. go back to your doctor, and aske to be put on a lower dose, and come off slowly going cold turkey is not a good idea if you have been on them for some time

My Mom has terrible anxiety attacks. The doctor prescribed Valium, which she carries with her all the time. When an attack is coming, she immediately takes Valium and the panic attack stops. She also tries to relax and repeats the name of Jesus. It's amazing how that works!

The program at http://www.PanicBook.com worked really great for me, I'm not on meds anymore and have'nt had a PA in years. I'm not a doc, but there's quite a few testimonials from docs on their homepage that I gave.
