"Dead" means lifeless and devoid of all powers. So if he died, then someone else had to bring him back to life, since he is devoid of all powers. Therefore, he can not be God.

What do you think?

Yep! it's pretty mysterious. But then, a divine mystery would HAVE to be mysterious, wouldn't it? This problem shows up every time someone thinks that the story can be explained in its entirety, and all questions answered. But if God is in fact superior to us (more knowing, more understanding, more powerful) there is no reason for that to be the case. The orthodox Christian teaching is that Jesus is, in fact, God, existed before the creation and participated in it, and exists eternally. However, He also became a human being and lived a human existence, one result of which is He got a lot of other people upset and they had Him killed. He was resurrected and ascended into heaven, concluding that human life which was interrupted but not finally terminated by His death. (We also believe that we will also be resurrected after death.) He also went around praying to God as His Father ("Daddy" would be an even better translation of the word he used) and teaching other people to do so. This makes the understanding of God even more complicated; eventually the doctrine of the Trinity (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost whom Jesus promised after His resurrection would come to his followers) was constructed to sort it out, and provide what explanation could be managed. It took a few centuries and some major contention over the details to develp the explanation that far, and a fellow religious studies student once remarked to me that every time he thought he had fully understood it, he found he had simply reinvented another old heresy! But the purpose of belief is not to claim complete comprehension; it's to come up with enough understanding to guide your choices when you don't really have enough proven knowledge to go on.

Jesus Christ, the firstborn of God the Father, was also the Only Begotten Son (in the flesh) of the Father.

Jesus Christ, having an immortal God as a father and a mortal mother had the capability to die from his mother and to be the first to resurrect, having the capability of His Father in heaven. He chose to atone for all mankind through the great sacrifice He willingly made.

Since God can not die He had to become a man. He left heaven's glory and come to earth as a man so He could die for your sins, Be buried and take your sins away and rise again the third day for our justification. 1 Corinthians 15: 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1 Corinthians 15: 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Romans 4: 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

The bible never said anywhere, that God died,,it says Jesus died for our sins.
God did not die, but the body, which he had taken on when he became human, this body died a real human death with a lot of pain and suffering to the point where he felt like the Father had forsaken him...
Jesus was a real man, flesh and blood with the same temptations and trials. Jesus was conceived by a woman and the Holy Spirit,,,,,, he was born, and he died as all humans must do but he didn't have to die,,,he chose to die for us. And the load of all the sin of the world was on him. Thank God he took our place,,,Can you imagine what it must have felt like to take on someones else sin when you knew you had not sinned...What a Savior!

But he rose again, just as he said he would, and he is coming again to take us to be with him,,and we be with him for eternity...I am so blessed to know the truth and to be a child of God...Hallelujah!

I keep seeing repetitive posts about Jesus' "spirit and divinity" living on even while he dies in the flesh. Yet, according to Christians, each of us has a "spirit." Thus, that would all make us "demi-gods" in some sort of fashion. This seems more in line with polytheism or paganism. LOL

1. 'Death' can simply be the transition from a mortal existence to an immortal existence.
2. 'God' in English can be plural (such as elohim) in Hebrew. There are about 10 terms in Hebrew that gets translated into the one term God in English. Thus 'God' can be a group not only one being.

isn't it amazing what a God would do for the pure love of his people? i believe a more interesting question is..."WHY would he die?" ...and that's really the whole point of it. the answer is love. the mere fact that God, who is (as you correctly stated) immortal, would become mortal flesh as man so that he could die, and in doing so, save man from evil and the fear of death....is nothing short of amazing. there is need to remember also....Jesus did not merely die, but also conquered death by his resurrection....all so that we, too, may rise with him in new life. that's the story. so how can he die? he can (and did) because he made himself perfectly man (mortal), yet still maintained the essence of who is (God), in that he was devoid of sin, though tempted as any man would be. try looking at it from that perspective.....if you understand why he died, you will begin to figure out how he could do it.

Nice one. I do not believe Jesus is God, but God is another person. Jesus is the son of God, and was born on this earth as a mortal being. Thus He was able to die. He was then resurrected through the power of God.

Jesus is the Son of God. God is his Father. God did not die. Jesus did. Why is that so hard for people to accept? Both the angels and the demons acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God. Besides, Jesus never said he was God but God said Jesus was his son.

I thought Jesus was not God and God was God. Wasn't Jesus a profit son of God?? I find that religion so confusing, they seem to worship Jesus over God.
