I have a Bichon frise and she had a litter of puppies 3 weeks ago. This morning, she starts crying and staying in weird places for longer periods, like under my desk. Right now, she's with her pups but she shivers and her eyes are squinting. What could be the problem here?
Another thing is that all of her breasts have swelled down except for one, it's like she has a ball in there. Is that normal?
I was thinking that she was cold because of her shivering, but her eyes are squinting... I've never seen her do that except while she's panting after a long walk. But she didn't do any vigorous activities.

We took her to the vet and she just had low calcium and that one big breast was just one of those that the pups didn't like. They gave her calcium through an IV and she needs to take tums and eat puppy food. I'm so relieved. =)

She is in pain and it is probably mastitis. Only your vet can tell, and she needs to go NOW before her infected milk kills the puppies.

"What could be the problem here?"

Aside from the fact that her owner is clueless? I feel bad for your poor dog, that you're sitting on the internet instead of taking her to the vet.

"Another thing is that all of her breasts have swelled down except for one, it's like she has a ball in there. Is that normal?"

NO, that is NOT normal, and if you don't know enough to know that, there's no way in hell you should be breeding. Get your dog to the vet and get her treated. And get her spayed as soon as the vet says it's okay.

Yes, she is sick. You should take her to the vet instead of asking question on the internet. Maybe you should have the puppies examined by the vet also.

Sounds like she is sick, and has an infection in her breast. If her pups are 3 weeks old, they still need to nurse. Please get her to the vet.

Take her to the vet before you lose her and the puppies. It can happen so...quick if you do not act quickly.

She needs to see a vet NOW!
She is in pain and visibly so.
Mastitis or engorgement of her teat(s).
Pls. take to vet ASAP.

Then get her spayed in 2 mths. she and you are inexperienced with birthing pups.
Gd. luck.

No, it's not normal. She either has a mammary infection or milk fever or both. Please take her to the vet. If it's milk fever she can die without treatment.
