angels are neither male nor female, however in the bible, they are usually referred to in the masculine sense.

When angels appear in the Bible they are always men. Acts 1: 10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Genesis 19: 1 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground; Only cherub have wings angel do not.

Jesus himself said that angels have no sexual identities.
They are neither male, or female. It was man who decided to take the names of angels they found in the bible and turn them into boy's names though.
