How do you start a community service log?

My teachers tell me that colleges look for people that have done alot of community service and I really want to know how to start a log and how many hours. I have done alot of community service in my school and outside for good causes.

What do I need to do?

A log would be for your own purposes, to keep track of when and where you volunteered. When you talk about your community service activities to colleges, however, they will not be looking for a list of organizations you have assisted and how many hours you gave each. Rather, they will want you to talk or write about why you volunteered, why you chose to help the organizatinos you did, why the causes are important to you, what you got out of your volunteering, why you think it was important, etc. You should brainstorm answers to those questions now, and be prepared to answer the in the future.

You could also blog about your experiences as a volunteer as well. If you have a Facebook or MySpace account, they both provide space for blogs, as does your Yahoo account (which you used to post this question).
