let's say i pray for something and in the event that i don't get what i want, i blame god for not giving it to me.
let's say i pray for something and in the event that i do get what i want, i have to attribute it to being because i prayed for it, and overlook the hard work that went into me going after what i want.
let's say i don't pray and i don't get what i want. i have nobody to blame but myself. i don't blame god, because i don't believe he exists. it would seem just as pointless as me blaming santa claus or the easter bunny.
let's say i don't pray and i do get what i want. then i realize i got exactly what i worked to get. and i don't have to share any of my accomplishment with anyone.
so, what exactly is the benefit of praying?

nemesis, who's the one whining? i'm asking questions in response to other questions i see posted here. you get mad about that because it questions your faith and go off into a rant about how you used to not believe in anything. boohoo. it's a free country and we're all allowed to think and voice our opinions as we please. deal with it.

You do not need an answer to your question, as you surely have it all correct. Prayer is nothing but hoping and begging, but there is no point in doing that because there isn't anyone on the other end of the line or around the corner nor on top of your house listening to you. Those who pray are weak minded and have hynotized themselves to believe in absolute nothing. You obtain through your own work and god nor Jesus plays any part in your life, as neither exists nor ever did. Again, to accept what uninformed persons believe is god or Jesus is insanity. Wasted brains believe that you have to accept Jesus and then what does that do for you except push you further into the trance you would already have to be in to even think about them. There is absolutely nothing at all true about a god or Jesus. God and Jesus are inventions by royalty. When a person could take over as the leader of a country or area thousands of years ago, they were smart enough to understand that for them to hold that power they had to have something by which to control the masses. So they told the dumb masses that they had been selected by a higher power to be their leader and then went on to explain that the higher power would kill them if they did not obey the leader. What they never told the masses is that the leader and the higher power mentioned were one and the same leader. Therefore, the royals in order to become royals needed that higher power to claim that they were selected or ordained to rule, and religion needed the royals in order to exist, But both are the same, and therefore religion is a fraud and anyone who believe in religion is a fool and insane. Look in that bible and see how each time a bew leader comes on the scene, his brother would aways become the high priest and they worked together to collect money and jeep their power over the dumb masses just as religion leader do today.

There is no point in praying if you do not believe in god. If you do believe ing od, then pray. Don't pray to ask for something every time. I have found that god gives me what I deserve, or what would really help me. If I ask god to make me the winner of the lottery he does not do so because he knows either that the money would make me lose sight of what is important or that I have not been a good enough person to be granted such a favor. Of course, that does not mean that bad things do not happen to those who do good, or wonderful things do not happen to those who do bad. God does not control everything on earth completely because all of us going here to earth is a test. If he told everyone what the right religion was or never gave anything bad to the people who were good, then everyone would go to heaven. so pray for the rest of mankind and thank god for just giving you life, and a home. if you do this and live a good life, I have found that good things keep on happening to me.

Real, effective prayer is simpler than that. It's not about wishes to a genie or letters to santa. Think of it like a relationship with the most ideal father you can think of. You gotta know him well enough to avoid asking for obvious "no"s and have a small idea of where he's directing you to get to more "yes" answers. Does work involve God? Yes. He's the one who helps us keep going when we want to quit. He also orchestrates circumstances to meet us when we've prepared. So, no you don't "need" to give him credit for your hard work, but you can't "bank on" his intervention if you are at odds with his will for your life.

ALLAH (GOD) knows it is not easy as said in the KORAN
[2.45] And seek assistance through patience and prayer, and most surely it is a hard thing except for the humble ones,
[2.153] O you who believe! seek assistance through patience and prayer; surely Allah is with the patient.
So if you want to go to heaven - you need to pray and be patient. This world is an exam for you; you will face devils, evils, etc. You must triumph - prayers is the difference between a believer and an infidel.

The main point of prayer isn't asking for stuff. Prayer is part of a relationship with God. It's a way of hanging out with him, in much the same way as we hang out with our spouses, family and friends. When we're in a relationship, sometimes we ask for things, sometimes we rant and rave about things, sometimes we listen, and sometimes we just be together. Prayer with God is like that.

It would depend upon which god you were praying to. If you're praying to some false god that is made of nothing but wood or stone then you're wasting your time. If you pray to Jesus, God the son, then you'll be heard because He's alive and listening. The second issue is the content of your request.... so the benefit depends on to whom you pray and why you are asking.

Praying is talking with Your Lord and Savior. He cares, and your prayers make the difference, however, He does not necessarily answer to our prayers the way we want.
I pray God's will be done.

Praying is useless, because there is no 'God' figure that is answering them. The only good it may due is calming people that actually buy into religion, thinking that they did something about their situation by asking God's help, but in reality they just wasted 5 minuets.

There is a reason the words pray and prey sound the same. Prayer is the same thing as wishing on stars....You can do it but it doesn't change a damn thing.
