You can buy books, or you can just tell him straight out. Explain the function of boy bodies and girl bodies and tell him how it happens. It'll be easier on you both the earlier you tell him and it'll be less awkward the earlier you do it.

Well the only way that I can imagine telling a 5 year where babies come from is telling him that when 2 people love each other they get together they get married and one day they join together and there are little things like fishes that goes from the daddy and into the mummy and it finds a home in an egg inside the mummy and slowly a baby will grow no doubt he will ask how does the fish thing get inside the mummy and simply say that they sleep next to each but they have to be grown up, he does not need to know the full details, and by the time he even thinks about sleeping with a girl he would be old enough to know exactly where they came from. Hope this helps

Don't lie to him with stork B.S. or anything like that. Tell him the truth, but in an age appropriate way. Like "when to grown ups love each other very much, sometimes they do a special thing together. That special thing sometimes makes a baby grow in the woman's womb. The baby grows there for 9 months until it is strong enough to be born." Something like that. Later, when he's older, you can fill in details about eggs and sperm and whatnot, but you won't have any lies to "unteach".
Edit: Some people don't seem to understand that 5 year olds are actually pretty smart. It's a normal age for them to start questioning these things and they are plenty old enough to understand basic details. Remember people, at 5, they're already in school.

I have a 5 year old and this is what I told him. I said that mommy has an egg(like a seed) and daddy has the fertilizer for the egg to grow into a baby. then mommy and daddy love each other in a special way and daddy gives her the fertilizer. Then after the baby grows it comes out of mommy's private areas.
All he said was it's good it doesn't have to come from daddy's that would hurt!! Oh from the mouths of babes!!

Considering he's still a young child, just tell him the classic story about the stork, and how the angels in Heaven make the babies for each family, then give them to the appropriate stork for delivery. Until he's older you might not want to freak him out with the true story. When he's older, you may want to take an easier approach by buying him a book on this "lovely" subject to ease him into the truth.

Tell him the unvarnished truth. At age 5 he will
soon be so bored that he won't to know more.
It's a good thing tho. When he is older he will
know who to ask. That's better than learning
from his 11 year old buddies.

In my Health class, my teacher said that studies show that parents who sugar-coat and lie about where babies come from to small children will impact their kids in a bad way later in life. In conclusion, tell the truth. To help you, I suggest reading this book to your child.

I would tell him he's too young and he is just a kid. I would also tell him that it was a blessing from God that he gave me you, it was a gift. If he really wants to know, then tell him that babies come from mommy's tummy. He probably can't grasp what a womb is.
