My family and I want to take a ski trip out to either the Denver area or the Salt Lake City area. We have 4 people in our family, and we can't seem to get the price under $1000. We need to buy plane tickets from Chicago and lift tickets, which are pushing us above $1000. We are looking to go around Feburary or January. If you know of any good deals out there then please tell me! Thanks!!!

you can fly. The cheapest way? go to ebay, and look for vouchers or coupons for that airline (I use Northwest airlines vouchers quite a bit).
For many reasons, people get coupons or vouchers or discounts for an airline. There are vouchers for X$ off, or, there are vouchers to pay a lower certain dollar amount for your flight.
There's usually just a catch, that you have to fly by a certain date.
When you win the bid on ebay, the seller will send you a code via email, and that's the code you will enter when buying your airline tickets.

Amtrack has a line that will drop you off in Fraser, about 5 miles away from Winter Park Colorado, ant the tix are usually pretty cheap. Also, look at Southwest.com...they have a non-stop from Midway to Denver, the tix are usually under $200 round trip. Southwest does not post on Travelocity or the other travel sites, you have to go directly to their website. Winter Park lift tickets are between 50 and 70 bucks, depending on the time of season you go.

The Amtrak line is unreliable in SUMMER...I can't think it would be good in winter. Plus, it's almost as fast to drive as it is to take the train..especially if you have a second driver.

I made it from Eastern PA to Colorado Springs in 46 hours by myself. (Yes...I did stop to sleep). Also have made it from Yellowstone to Eastern PA in 48 hours with multiple drivers.

2 drivers from Chicago to Denver...24 hours or less in the car...easy! I made it from St.Louis to Denver in 17 hours..with some rest stops.

But keep looking for cheap plane tix.

Chicago is far away...but not that far. If money is the issue, and time is not, then drive. You could all pile in the car and make it in 24 hours. That would save a bundle.

Ski tickets are expensive no matter what.
