It can definitely make you sick. It will not actually give you a virus, but it will wear down your immune system a LOT and make you way way more susceptible to illnesses like viruses, and make it harder to get rid of it once you are sick. Also, I couldn't tell if it is 35-40 outside or inside, but it is NOT healthy to be in 35-40 degrees indoors. You can get hypothermia from that, landlords are required to keep buildings at above 55 so people don't die from the cold.

Either make him shut the windows or get up and do it yourself. Even if he doesn't believe that the cold makes you sick, he should still be respecting your wishes and shutting them for you, especially if youre not feeling well. He doesn't sound very nice to me, honestly.

Cold itself doesn't make you sick. But if you get rundown or if you are sick already the cold will slow the healing process. It's take longer to get better, it's stesses your body trying to keep warm. It's stupid leaving windows open when it's cold out. What a waste of energy! Open windows for 15 minutes to air out the house is enough in the winter.

well tell your bf he is a dumb-***, because he clearly hasn't heard of bacteria or parasites, or even of just common colds. When your body gets colder than its usual temperature which is like 97.3 degrees F or something in that range, its causes your body to work extra hard to try and keep you warm and wears out all of your systems(which is why you get a fever when you are ill) and depletes your immune system and makes it easier for you to get sick and when ill, you also get goosebumps, which erect your body hairs and allow for more insulation of air to try and keep you warm, but sometimes feels like its not. And when you are running fever or have the chills or whatever for a longer period of time (6-12 or even 24 hours) it wears the immune system out and can cause you to get sicker with a virus/parasite/bacteria, or even cause you to get the flu, or an extended cold.

Normally an open window will not cause illness but will contribute to it. If your body is having to work harder to keep warm it will lower you immune defenses allowing the virus to take over. As far as having the situation manifested through continuous exposure to the open windows and cold, it will cause the body to work even harder and can develop into more serious conditions. It is easy to see who rules the roost at your place. Get rid of the insensitive cad and get better. Te relational stress is not helping the health situation.

awww your bf sounds horrible anyway, you can get sick from the cold because it lowers your body temperature which just makes you sicker and sicker you may even end up dying if you don't put a stop to it also say i swear i will break up with you if you don't keep the windows closed, also say it is not a myth! if he doesn't believe break up with him and find someone better

yes,but not directly. the cold lowers the efficiency of white blood cells , fagocytes, and other virus fighters in your body. If your boyfriends being a butt, bring the thermostat really low at night, and close the air vent in the living room.or pour icy water on him to wake him up!

My mom swears this makes her sick, but I can go out in the cold with wet hair, and the cold doesn't cause me to catch a cold. So I guess it probably has to do with your immunity. How come since it isn't his house, he is allowed to do that?

I disagree with him leaving the windows open in the living room but I agree totally with windows slightly open during the night.
If the bedroom windows are closed I wake up wit a HORRIFIC headache. I need fresh air during my sleep or I feel dead in the morning. WHY ARE WOMEN AGAINST FRESH AIR !!! Cannot understand it !!

Your boyfriend is an insensitive idiot.

Being physically cold can make you sick because it is a physical stressor that weakens your body and immune system.

There is heat stroke and hypothermia at the extreme ends of the spectrum. You are experiencing mild hypothermia.

Dump this bozo before he really hurts you.
