Yes.
However, if one wasn't too happy with the wife, it would be an easy way to get rid of her and claim it was an accident.
Beyond losing his job, I think he should face manslaughter charges.

To update a biblical principle.."He who has never done anything that they regret, let him (or her) be the first to label someone an "idiot." Where have we come as a society when we can look at a grieving husband who has just lost a loved one, and think of "shaming him" within 24 hours of his loss! The fact that it was at his own hands will make his grief much more harder to bear! For the rest of his life, he will be plagued by how his "clumsiness" cost him someone that he loved! Which of us, if we were in his shoes, would not want the forgiveness of Kimberly's friends and family to reach down and pull him from his despair? I believe that the one who posed this question should think long and hard before being quick to put such a harsh label on a grieving widower.

What a horrific thing to happen.
I worked with an Officer who shot out the mirror in the men's locker room doing the same thing. He got lucky, and only got a 10 day suspension.
This Deputy will have to live with the consequences of his carelessness for the rest of his life.

First, a tragic accident. Glad you see the humor in it.
Second, he was not yet a deputy, since he hadn't actually started working there yet. Then again, that wouldn't make your post quite as titillating.

Wouldn’t be funny at all if you were the one he shot. Now would it?
Maybe the guy was an idiot; I see the type driving cars every day. But there’s no need to laugh about a tragedy.

He should have never pointed it in a direction where people may walk, and it shouldn't have been loaded. He should be charged with something. His ignorance killed her.
