Nope!! First time I've deployed in years. In the Air Force, they take volunteers to deploy first. We have so many people who want to deploy, usually I'm nowhere on the radar. But, I did have to go this time. I guess it all depends on your career field, and how many in your shop want to go.

Nothing is always. But Active Duty is Mostly Active. The very definition of "Active Military" is your on active duty and active means that your "away" It could be "temporary duty" away from your assigned unit or a permanent change of duty station to a new unit. Even the most stable career field in the military will require time "away" for schooling and training. If being away from something or someone is a concern, you should re-consider your military choice and stay put. Even in most civilian career fields, many jobs require you to be away for meetings, seminars, training and experience different job skills. You are going to limit your horizons by not wanting to be "away" in most career fields of today, military or civilian.

Away can mean anywhere from a day to 15 even 18 months and yes it does happen. Each branch as their own time in which they are gone from the base they are stationed at. Then there is the job that they do. Some are home a lot while others are gone for a few weeks here and there and then there is other ones that are gone for months on end.

Active duty means you are full time, getting a check 2x/month. When reserve and guard get a call up notice they are put on active duty.

Your spouse won't receive any reward inclusive of an i.d. card, coverage, and so on. except you get activated to energetic accountability for deployment. Depends on the branch, your rate/mos, and the needs of the military. You usually get to pick your orders, but sometimes they'll stick ya where they need ya.
