You take the same chances with a new car that you do with a used one (hence the need for lemon laws).
I personally prefer a 'slightly' used car with a decent carfax so that while it is still under warranty, I also don't have to deal with ultimately paying more in a car loan than the car is worth.
The only reason I can use for buying a new car is if you want to special-order a car with a specific set of options, and you don't plan to get rid of the car in less than 5 years/

I always buy used cars but only from individuals, not from dealers. I have owned 2 new cars, both were junk,so I decided that I'd rather take a chance with used cars and save money.TIP,never buy a used car because of the color or flashy appearance, and Honda's and Toyota's seem to have a very good track record

I personally never have bought a new car. I was a GM salesperson for about a year. I sold allot of new cars. You should look at program vehicles. These vehicles are usually off lease vehicles with low mileage or Rental vehicles. These vehicles usually have between 10 and 50K miles. They are often covered by the manufacturer's warranty. You can save allot of money with buying a program vehicle.
I no longer sell cars.

I wouldn't buy a new car, but my grandfather always does. He says he just doesn't feel like dealing with problems with someone else's car. I think it's more a sense of security than any real reason.

As soon as you drive off the dealer's lot, your brand new car becomes a used car. It also looses several thousand dollars in value! If you want to spend the money, it is yours and you can do what you want. I do not see it as a good idea, but it is up to you.

Buying used, you will save the heavy depreciation and in most cases you will either have an existing warranty or you can buy an extended warranty if you want.
I always buy used or a demo but it always has to be 1 owner and I always ask for all of the maintenance records and go all of my research concerning the vehicle and so far I have never been burned.
Buy used and do your own research and save a bunch.
Good luck

buy from individuals and it is cheap, dealers are too expensive and give all those fees, fees. but when it comes to service of warranty they suck. plus when buy cash there is no pay statements in your mail box, what a sense of happiness.
