NO the dogs heat doesn't stop when it gets pregnant! It will continue it's heat until it is scheduled to stop.
It will last the entire 3 weeks hon! No stopping at all. Then if she did breed the pups will be here in approx. 63 days from her breeding.
Dogs are not like Humans in this area at all! OMG!

A dog is ovulating during her heat, unlike a human 'period' which occurs at the end of ovulation, when the egg is being flushed out of the womb. Once an egg has been fertilised, she will still continue through the normal physical signs of being in 'heat' - signs of pregnancy such as swollen belly and teats don't occur until the last 3 weeks of pregnancy, so people often aren't aware their dogs are pregant until it's too late. Phantom pregnancies are common so people often also think their dogs are pregnant when they're not.
Please don't wait to find out though, PLEASE get her spayed. There is no question these days that it's better for her health, and since you're not a breeder you really shouldn't be allowing more puppies to come in to the world, not when there are so many already dying in shelters for lack of a home.

The main purpose of the 'heat' is to get pregnant, so the moment the dog gets pregnant it stops. Or the body stops producing the hormone that makes a dog or any animal want to reproduce. estrogen, if I remember.
This is something that is taught in school.
Oh, and by the way, all male dogs when they are puppies want to mount on something all the time, so if your dog goes near a young one, poor girl. I had a dog once that had her 'heat' only four times a year, and when she got pregnant, she did not seem to want any from her male companion.
Although yes, the dog while in heat will mate with a thousand dogs... and thus she can get pregnant from varies dog males. So sometimes those pups are really half siblings...

Is she gets pregnant the heat will end at its normal time and you will end up with puppies in about 63 days. Then she will come in to heat again on the approx. 6 month schedule.

Get her spayed - please.
The world does NOT need more pups when millions are killed every year in this country alone for lack of homes for them.
Don't even worry about heats - get her spayed, the heats will stop and she'll be a happy, healthy pet.

Heat happens so the dog can get pregnant. Why would she need it if she became pregnant.
Your update: The duration of heat will remain the same, as animals need to 'make sure' they have been fertilized, and are usually mated with by several males.
