Not long term. It is too high in fat and protein. Leads to OBESE dogs AND kidney failure.

That Is Worrying! I Have To Agree!
Cat Food Should Not Be Fed To Dogs! Cat Food Contains Different Levels Of Nutrients To Dog Food. Feeding A Dog Cat Food Could Make It Seriously Ill!

I Know It Will Be Difficult Telling The Owners But Its The Responsible Thing To Do. Just Ask Them Why They Feeed Her Cat ood And Just Explain That og Food Would Be Better For Her. Hopefully They Will Understand.

Good Luck

Dogs CAN eat small amounts of cat food occasionally, but NOT the other way round. It shouldn't really be given long term as a suitable diet. Are you sure they didn't just feed it cat food as a one off because they'd ran out of dog food? You need to talk to them. Maybe someone gave them the cat food free and they are just using it up or something? Ask them if they brought it and have always fed it to the dog. There isn't any need to be rude or aggressive about it. I don't think there was any need for the rude and aggressive replys you had from some yahoo uses here either. This dog lot can be like pit balls! Hard core mean and nasty!

There may be a reason why they give her cat food. Many dog food is too rich for her stomach, maybe she will only eat cat food. I wouldn't say that it is ideal for the dog to get cat food but if its not doing her any harm then I don't really see a problem with it.

No, it's not safe at all. Cat food is too rich in protein and it is also supplemented with the extra amino acids that cats need which can lead to liver problems and other organ issues in dogs.
I would explain to them that they very well may be killing their dog with an improper diet.
There is a REASON there is separate foods for dogs and cats......I don't know why that is such a hard concept for some people.

Cat food will not harm your dog in the least. There is a higher meat content in cat food generally speaking as cats can't live on a vegetarian diet whereas dogs can.

I don't think dogs eating cat food can really harm them but they will not get the true nutrients that they need to grow and develop. Cats and dogs need different food types. Dogs are known for eating both meat and plants where cats generally only eat meat. It's important to be feeding them the correct food so that they remain healthy. If I were you I would say something to the owner of the dog.

i have a dog and a 9 month kitten the problem we have is the dog eats the kitten food. i asked the vets about this and they said it is nothing to really worry about as long as the dog is eating all her dog food. it is not reccommended to give cats dog food or dogs cat food for long periods of time has this can damage thier health.

No, it isn't safe to feed a dog cat food. Cat food is higher in protein and fat.

Dogs usually love cat food, it has way more protein and fat than dog food, and a little certainly won't hurt them.

However, dogs really need a good dry kibble with meat as the first ingredient - wet cat food is too rich for them to eat regularly and it will cause tartar build up on their teeth, dry kibble doesn't build tartar like that.
