SO MANY DIFFERENCES. the ps3 has sixaxis (wireless ,moton sensing controller).The Ps3 has way better graphics,th ps3 is all wireless,including internet,playstation network (for free!),the ps3 has media player,it's actually a blueray player.it has usb ports so yo can plug in your ipod,other things. there is so much more.

The Playstation 2 Is Old Playstation 3 Is New The Playstation 3 Can Play Audio Cd's Dvd's Blue Ray Dvd's It Has Better Games
It Has Better Processors I Would Say Playstation 2 Can Not Compare To The Playstation 3 Period

im guessing by your question that you dont even know that the playstation 3 is basically a "next-gen" playstation 2, its a newer console made by the exact same company, it has much better graphics, its a blu-ray player, you can access the internet and play games online with it, and many other things, whereas a playstation 2 is basically JUST a gaming console, but with worse graphics etc., if you were thinking of giving someone a playstation 2 or 3, definitely go with 3, the 2nd playstation is MUCH worse

I'll make this simple..
- Different graphics for both consoles.
- The controller that the Ps3 uses has motion sensing
- More next-gen games for the Ps3
- The Ps3 saves it's games on it's hard drive not on a memory card
- The games cost more since it's next-gen
- More power.. As in, hard drive..
- Advanced online
- Create a user and save photos, music, and videos.
- Playstation Store, buy demos and movies and loads more
- Blu-ray player!
And I guess loads more :)

I love my ps3. You no longer have to have memory cards. Everything is stored in the memory. I also love the controller. With certain games you use it like you would use the controller on the Wii. And the games are much better with great graphics. If you can swing it, buy one.

They are two totally different systems. They use different CPUs, GPUs, completely different architecture. PS3 is stronger than PS2 35 times.
PS2 is a sixth generation console
PS3 - seventh generation.
