The military wants to get in as many people as possible. The training is geared more towards getting the weaker ones to an acceptable level than to weed them out.

Both. Basic Training/Boot Camp is designed to push the recruits both physically and mentally. 99% of them get stronger and graduate without any problems. There is that 1% that ocassionally just don't make it for whatever reason. Being in the military isn't for everyone.

I was definetly one of the physically weaker candidates but I push myself and never quit. I lost a total of 40lbs in basic and people are still are surprised of how small I got. I still think like I am fat at times..lol. Basic is what you make. You get out of it what you put in. You can overcome physical weakness if you push yourself even pass places you don't want to go i.e. I had to run over and over and over again but I did it. I still HATE running but I do it all the time. Every male and every female have the same standards. But it is not as hard as you think. I feel in my heart if I made it through anybody who really wants to get through Basic can.

Yes they do. If they are not able to meet the physical requirements they get their boot camp extended and they work with them and try to get them into condition to pass. They can be extended up to 4 weeks. After that if they still fail they are discharged honorably from the service.

They have standards...
but the standards are not that unreasonable.
Many of the jobs in the military require more brains than brawn.
If the military looking to weed out people it would be more for psychological reasons.

Sure you have to be physically strong, but not superman. Your training will make you as fit as possible to pass. However don't forget that Its also a lot to do with mental strength, you can be as fit as anything but not have the mentality to see the training and progressive operations through!

They WILL get everyone to the minimum and above before graduation.....trust me. Even the lazy fat people come out looking pretty trim and physical.

I believe that they do.
My uncle, who in High School, took drama and never did any kind of sport in his entire life, enlisted in the USMC and graduated. So, if he at a 98 lb weakling can graduate, anybody can!!
