guaifenesin - It actually thins the mucus so it can be cleared with productive coughing. It also helps by keeping it flowing instead of getting stuck and being inhaled into lungs. It is the active ingredient in Robitussin PE (what I recommend for cases like yours). It is also the active ingredient in Mucinex.

There are other things you can do to aleviate your symptoms. My son-in-law recently had the same problem, and this is what he did:

Mullein Tea is great for respiratory anything. Get it at your local health food store or online at http://www.iherb.com (not affiliated) add honey. It tastes very good.

Other hot teas to use: lemon, ginger, peppermint, black

Get some Grapefruit Seed Extract from your healthfood store on online at same site above. We use the liquid - 10 drops in 6 oz of water. Gargle and swallow. It is strong tasting, so have something to chase the flavor down. Pineapple juice is a good option, since it is soothing to the throat also. Make sure you get GrapeFRUIT, not Grape. We use it as a natural antibiotic here since my son is allergic to all antibiotics. My son in law recently used it to cure an ear infection. Just put the diluted drops in his ear.

You can make your own sinus rinse/nasal spray wy putting 1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
in 4 oz of warm water and mixing completely. Then spray or use a dropper to put in your nose.

Also, add Vit C to your daily routine with each meal. It is water soluble, so will not stick around. It must be taken more than once a day to really be effective. Vit C is a natural antiviral.

if you have a sinus infection that also causes: head aches, ear infections, nose pain due to inflammation. you have to get antibiotics and of coarse you can only get that at the hospital. so, you'll have to make an appointment.

steam is good to clean you out. boil a pot of water. pour it into a plastic bin. put a towel over your head and breath in the steam. keep tissue by and blow your nose often. good luck

hope you feel better. oh and PS i like to put in tea as well. Chamomile tea is really good.

a good detox tea is Dandelion tea.

and a good tea that is well know for keeping your immune system strong and a good dex tea is green tea

all tea's know matter what you use should be organic!!! preservatives can prevent the goodness from the tea.

you can buy these tea's in a regular supermarket. it's not that hard to find. you have to go to the organic or health food isle. all other tea's are in the juice and coffee isle.

look for Yogi Tea's. they are really good and the only ones i use and they are organic. a bit steap in price. about 5-6 bucks a box. you get 16 tea bags. if your an advent drinker you run out quick. but, if you drink for health reasons. organic is the best to go.

I have an herbal tea made with plantain, thyme and fenugreek. It works wonders. Sweeten with honey, because it tastes horrible. Take it right before bed and wake up feeling much better.
