OH Dear Heart,,,it was not wasted.....Jesus and his sacrifice, brings seeking souls to the altar every day....Millions have been saved by believing in him and millions more will be....there are many people in this world who care about others,,,you just don't hear about the good deeds people do,,,,it isn't interesting news...the media doesn't report good news,,,,

But it still happening,,,,look at the outpouring of love for those caught up in disasters,,,if you visit one of those places,,,,like my hometown,,,a Katrina survivor,,,you will hear many stories of love and hope, and I am sure it is the same all over....Christians were the first to arrive down here to help.....and they are still coming on their vacations,,their spring break,,,,people are overwhelming good and the Christians usually lead the way.....so cheer up....All is right in God's world....don't let a few get you down...

Merry Christmas to you and your family, I will be thinking of those on this board at Christmas time and saying a little prayer that you will all have a day filled with love and hope, and joy.

I understand the feeling. There's nothing like a good idea to get shameless commerce busy trying to turn it into a profit-making racket. I loathe the materialism that has taken over the almost unrecognizable message of love and compassion. And it's amazing how care for the poor and powerless is still a hard sell. But most of my favorite "carols" now are cynical parodies, just because so much violence has been done to the meaning of "Christmas". About the only one I still respect is "I Heard the Bells", especially the last verse.

Christmas to me is a time to forget everything else and to just focus on being happy and making other people happy. While christmas may open your eyes to the things wrong in the world it can also be the kick to do something about it, something small perhaps but something all the same. Christmas makes me cheerful and the only thing that makes me sad at christmas is when i see people who are not excited. I want everyone to be happy at christmas.

Honestly, no... And that's sad. The whole meaning of Christmas is usually very different from what regular people, myself included, associate with the holiday. The values connected to Christmas should be held throughout the year, not jus' that day... But I will say, you're probably a rare breed.

It makes me feel very happy, like no other time in the year. But I associate it almost entirely with Jesus, and not with the empty commercial inventions of the last 100 years. (I say "almost entirely" because I still love "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas"!). I realize there is still a lot of misery in the world, 2000 years after Jesus' birth, but remember that he came to fight that misery. Warm yourself to the thought that he DID come, for everyone.

Have a merry Christmas.

I think that Christmas as a religious celebration has lost all of its meaning. It has become a shopping-fest.
The spirit of giving has been replaced by the commercially-led pressure to buy.
People buying things for people who don't need them only for those same people to give them things that they don't need themselves.
I think that if Christians want to celebrate the birth of their religious leader, they should move the celebration day (it WAS set arbitrarily in the first place) and reclaim it as their own.
And leave the shopping-fest to the bereft of thinking.
I could be wrong, though.

I feel all warm and fuzzy at Christmastime.

I'm not very big on organised religion but I will go to Christmas Mass, and I love carols. My favourite is Oh Holy Night.

I do feel depressed because Christmas has become just so commercial to a lot of people and they forget thats really a day Jesus was born . I also feel depressed that non believers or people of other faiths feel they are so offended when we say things like Merry Christmas, when we don't have objections to their choices in believing or being other faiths. But I am also happy because I enjoy my children's happiness on that day, our celebration of friends and family and celebration of Jesus being born

I'm rather apathetic about the whole thing.

I guess I like seeing my family, but I'm away from my friends and my independence for two solid weeks, and just to sound like the whiny teenager I am, there's something sort of depressing about watching cousins two years younger than you swimming in wrapping paper while you're sitting there with a book you wouldn't possibly want to read, and a guitar strap that will kill your shoulders and looks retarded.

Deer Little, look at the positive side of things, how many good things and how much good has been done exist in the world because of the teachings of Jesus?
