i used to smoke alot in Jr high and high school but now I have better things to do and my career and family come first. to my knowledge, no one has ever died or been diagnosed with an illness from marijuana (unless allergic), pretty much boils down to the gov't not being able to tax it, i think

First lemme ask you a question - Have you ever heard of anyone DYING from smoking marijuana?

marijuana is known to be (by the scientists who tell the truth) less destructive than caffeine (and tobacco, crack, shrooms, etc.) However it isn't completely harmless
Bad effects: regular (like everyday) use can lower your motivation and brain cells
Good effects: Different insight to life, heightens senses (music sounds better, food tastes better), NOT addictive (where as caffeine, tobacco and hard drugs are), different experience, laughter

injesting anything into the lungs isn't going to be naturally GOOD for you but your lungs do repair over a short time and a lot of people can get a whole new perspective by using it though I warn you not to do it regularly or let yourself do it cause that is where people get this idea that its all bad and makes you a burn out

for me it was very good and changed my perspective when I thought I couldn't do that myself - I used it in a spiritual way and painted while doing it sometimes - I created some of the most creative paintings when I was high - I did not use it regularly - most I used it was 4 times a month - honestly before I did it I thought it WAS bad for you but unless you try it yourself I don't think anyone should say ANYTHING on this subject... its like saying "oh I KNOW vanilla icecream is gross but I've never tried it" theres no facts backing up a lot of arguments here....

look at the site... ALL FACTS no opinions about any drug

I find it kinda funny that most people who claim to have 'used' marijuana describe being high like a stereotypical 'trip' you would see in a movie. Marijuana can cause you to hallucinate or see everything in colors, but that is extremely rare. I also find it funny how many people are stupid enough to be brainwashed about marijuana. It does not kill brain cells, your brain is actually designed to receive THC and use it. There has never been a recorded death from someone using only marijuana. Most importantly, marijuana is not a gateway drug. That term makes everything way too vague. While only .2% of cocaine users haven't used marijuana, only 17% of marijuana users have tried cocaine. That is not even close to enough to show a correlation between marijuana and cocaine. I'd bet that people who used heroin or cocaine, started out by smoking cigarettes or drinking before they smoked marijuana. So why aren't cigarettes and alcohol considered gateway drugs?

Back to the question, Marijuana is not bad for you at all. Smoking marijuana is bad because there are about 398 chemicals in the smoke, with 2 chemicals actually being good for you (the ones that get you high). That is pretty much the only bad thing for you in marijuana. I see that as no reason for marijuana to be illegal or considered bad, especially when using it in tea, or in food, or vaporizing completely gets rid of all these bad chemicals.

Even beyond if it is bad for you, which it isn't (there are hundreds of studies proving it is actually good for you, many of which are done through Harvard) the question I want to know is why is it illegal? I see no reason why the government or a bunch of lobbyist had to tell me what and what not to do, when I'm not harming anybody. People should have the right to put anything in their body or do anything to their body as long as they don't harm anyone else.

Not a killer, but not good either.

Is it the "killer drug" as projected by the media??? NO! But it's not healthy by any stretch. First, you are smoking. SO you have the obvious lung damage effect. Second, it effects your memory cells in your brain. It destroys the cells durring the time you smoke it and future memory cells. There is no proof that it effects past memory cells. At least not that I have read.
Those are the two main negative effects it has physically.

When you start smoking it would seem fun and joyous. But then you get habitual and eventually you become very lathargic and you simply dont want to do anything. Remember those commercials where the pot smoker is "deflated" and worthless, when you smoke habitually thats about what happens. It may be very cliche but its the truth.

Make your own judgement. But some people do not know how to handle marijuana responsibly....
On that same note, some people dont know how to handle Alcohol responsibly....

It's definitely not good for you, but it is not a "killer drug". I have never heard of anyone being injured/killed from marijuana. I smoke and drink and I think that drinking is a million times worse. Drinking is dangerous when you drive and it is horrible for your liver. Smoking is not good for your lungs, but you can always make brownies, cookies or tea instead of smoking it. I am personally a huge fan of pot and think that it should be legalized. The only negative effects that I can think of are that some people become lazy, it's illegal in most places and I believe that it is "mentally" addictive. By mentally I mean that there is no physical addiction; no come-down or withdrawal. You can't even overdose on it. Honestly it is the best drug I have ever come into contact with and I wish that our government/citizens would stop being so ignorant about it.

P.S. I know many successful, and intelligent people who smoke on a regular basis. I work full time, am in college with all A's and B's and smoke more than once a week. I have seen more people ruin their lives by becoming alcoholics rather than potheads.

Marijuana is absolutely not a "killer drug". They like to say that because it leads to the use of other drugs, because kids usually try marijuana first (because it's the easiest drug to get your hands on) and find that they like the "high" of marijuana and want to see what kind of highs the other drugs have to offer.

Obviously smoking marijuana is not GOOD for you, but it's not necessarily BAD for you either. It's absolutely a hundres times better than smoking cigarettes. To put it in perspective for you.. you would have to smoke more than your body weight in marijuana before you died from it. That is absolutely positively impossible. Nobody could smoke that much marijuana, and if they tried they would just pass out after probably the first pound.

Marijuana is basically illegal because the government cannot find a way to control the distribution of it, therefore they cannot tax it. And if they cannot tax it, then it is useless to them. Eventually they will catch on and learn how to control it, just like they learned to control alcohol, which, by the way is probably about a million times worse for you than marijuana.

I personally love smoking it. I hated it when I first tried, but once I got used to it, it makes me feel happy and free. I've never had any issues as far as getting sick from it or anything like that. It's a pretty clean drug, as long as you know where its coming from. However, there are some kinds that have other drugs mixed in like cocaine or PCP. So, just like every other drug, be very careful.

Hope this helped!

Since the actual question is "Good or bad, how was it for you?" I'll answer that part first, and then you can keep reading or skip the rest. It felt good, but did bad things to me.. Here's the story:

Back when I was involved with this drug, I thought it was fun, and a great way to releive stress. I thought it made me kinda' cool too because it's illegal. In some ways it's like underaged social drinking. If you don't use too much, or too often, the "damage" is minimal, but it's kinda' risky to assume you're "safely" using it.

I used to do it and then go to bed, so I wouldn't go out and get in-trouble. However, it used to make me paranoid and in all actuality, I can recall lots of times that I was stoned and REALLY wished I wasn't.

I also almost got in-trouble when I got drug-tested for employment, I decided not to test, but missed out on a pretty good employment oppourtunity. Another thing I should mention is that I often had marijuana that was mixed with other drugs, without knowing it.

The only way I found out that my marijuana was mixed with something, was by noticing how extreme the "high" was. That was VERY scary sometimes, and made me cut back on my usage of it. The thing that made me quit it for good was when I was with a buddy of mine and only had a little bit "for old times sake"... I was stoned enough that I discovered I couldn't read anymore! I picked-up the novel I was reading, and although I could recognize words and understand the meanings of the specific words, I could no longer make sense of more than one or two words at a time. At first, it was kinda funny, and a good indication that I'd smoked more than marijuana.

The next day, I was shaking my head, wondering how close I'd come to frying my brain. I picked up a book, and still couldn't read it! It took about a week before I could read with full comprehension. Considering how much I used to like to read, that was VERY scary.

Marijuana doesn't really kill many braincells, it actually disrupts the way your brain accesses those cells, like crosswiring between them. Over time, those "disruptions" can become almost permanent. I think we've all seen "burn-outs" that have obviously done a little too much, and no longer much good to anyone.

These days, the threat of "unknown drugs" mixed with marijuana is much more severe. There are drugs out there now which can addict you and/or kill you with only one use. You wouldn't know they were in there until it's too late. All you'll know is that your suppliers will say "oh man.. dis is da' GOOOD stuff.." ... THAT'S the stuff you gotta' watch out for.. it's dangerous!

Also remember the simple basic facts here: The drug is illegal There's risks involved whenever you do illegal activities, and you can lose quite a bit, including the respect of all the folks that you care about.

This is why folks think it's "cool".. it's dangerous and a risk, and they beleive that showing off that it doesn't bother them, and they're "against the system" and noone can tell them what to do, etc, makes them cooler.

That's kind of a silly attitude similar to being a kid that runs around with scissors for no other reason than to risk stabbing themselves accidentally. We're all guilty of that kinda' thing at some point in our lives, I guess.. I mean.. look how many folks ride motorcycles without helmets.. But SHOULD we be like that, or is it wrong? that's a personal question that only you can answer.

Oh, and for the record, the "medicinal" usage of marijuana is for folks that have cancer and are undergoing chemotherapy. It's in pill form and helps stop them from feeling too nauseous from the treatment. It'll stop them vomiting long enough to take their pain medicine. I've seen it used that way, and honestly have no information regarding official usage as an actual Pain reducer, my suspicion is that folks are just guessing or passing along unsubstantiated rumors when they mentioned that in some of the other replys.

If you seriously want to use this stuff, I'd suggest some kinda' counselling, and wish you the best of luck.

-Mike

Wow, what a loaded question.

There is more tar, and a huge number of chemical compounds in marijuana. Speaking of which, there are many different grades of marijuana, which makes it even more difficult to pin down an answer.

The tar is bad for your lungs, even though the smoke seems to be good for avoiding and treating glaucoma. There is no doubt it changes your ability to think, and reason, and dulls your reflexes. So If you are driving, and need to avoid a truck coming at you at high speed, yes, it is very bad for you. It has been used for pain relief for people who have vomiting problems.

In the early twentieth century, marijuana had a huge negative ad campaign sponsored by the us government.

Many of the mis-truths and exaggerations from that campaign are still perpetuated today. It is my personal belief that one of the reasons mj is truly a "gateway" drug, is that after all the warnings and ill effects we are told about it don't become immediately apparent, young people start to wonder if there were similar exaggerations made about other drugs.

Is it really that bad for you? If you do it once, probably not. If you become addicted, yes, probably.

Pot heads tend to become very lazy, which can cause problems with keeping a job, or a good GPA...

ok most of the people here must be dare poster children because they have no idea what they are talking about. weed is better than cigarettes because it is not cancerous and its better than alcohol because it doesnt destroy your liver.

if anyone wants proof that long term use of marijuana isnt as bad as everyone says, then take a look at Willy Nelson. that old man probably has been smoking 20 joints a day for the last 50 yrs.

and another thing, nobody sells laced weed. thats the biggest crock of bs. some weed is better than others and will give you a more intense high.

ok so heres the answer that will solve all questions, it depends on the person, if the person is ignorant its not gonna do them much good. heres my point of view, i have used marijuana for a long time now, im a very talented musician, artist and writer. in college i took physics and aced every test, while being high either in class or outside of class. now tell me has marijuana affected me in a bad way. i dont think so, and for people giving you rude answers saying yeah stupid its a drug, then tell them to go take something the government wants them to take, marijuana can help many people if we opened our minds a little.

Well, if I'm being brutally honest it was good for me. In the same sense though, had I done this at a different time in my life it would not have had the same outcome. I waited until my mid 20's to even try it. The reason I waited so long was because I DID have a curiousity about drugs, I was well educated on the fact that it is a "gateway drug" (meaning it can lead to heavier drugs and drug use) and I wanted to wait until I was mature enough to handle it, knowing I really wouldn't allow myself to be tempted by other drugs AND when I felt I could handle the consequences if I got caught. It affected no one but me. No kids. No husband. I would be the only one to pay the consequences if I got busted breaking the law. I treated it with the same respect as alcohol. No smoking and driving, no smoking in public places, etc. I used it when I was having extreme emotional problems and needed something to calm me down. When I made the decision to even begin thinking about parenthood, settling down, marriage and all that jazz, I made the decision to give up the pot first. I found it to be very easy. 4 years of daily smoking and I quit, just like that. Personally, I think it should be reclassified and legalized with the same laws as alcohol but I know that will never happen. I'd never encourage anyone to try it, but I think it can be "okay" on a short term basis if one is mature enough and realistic enough to remember it IS illegal and it can easily tempt you into trying heavier drugs. The mentality is usually, "well, marijuanna doesn't hurt me so why would xyz?"
Oh yah, duh, one more really important point. It is HORRIBLE for your health. One joint is the equivalent of a about a half a pack of cigarettes. Terrible terrible for your physical health.
