Does anyone know this cartoon show from the early 1980s? I'll try and describe it...
Question Details: In the early 1980s, say somwhere between 82 and 84, there was an animated show on TV. I remember these few facts from a nebulous young memory:

1. it was set in outer space
2. there were human characters
3. the most salient clue, the people lived and fought on a space ship resembling a naval battleship from WWII which had a powerful energy canon on the front of its bow used in fighting enemies. I'm not totally sure, but I think the ship was either blue or red in color (but don't quote me on that one description point)

this show has haunted my idleling memories since then. i can't remember any titles, locations, or character names, yet the images remain.

So does anyone have a clue or idea to what I'm recalling from the past? Any names or videos on the Net? Wikipedia or YouTube, perhaps???

"Space Cruiser Yamato",otherwise known as "Star Blazers" in English-dubbed form. It centered around a WWII battleship, the Yamato (Argo) that had been converted into a spaceship fitted with a powerful energy cannon in Earth's battle against the alien Gammalons, who were bent on conquering Earth.

It ran for three seasons in Japan (plus two feature films) in the mid-Seventies...the third and final season was never dubbed into English. The first two were English-dubbed by Claster Television (GI Joe, Transformers, Jem) in 1979-80 (the second wasn't as successful due to Claster employing different voice actors for the secon season.

Star Blazers/Space Cruiser Yamato is on DVD in America (see link below for an online anime DVD seller who stocks it).
