How do you feel when it's time for your child to have a vaccination? Upset, worried, glad they're safe?

What are your beliefs on them overall? Should your child/children have them or not?

Just curious on different opinions.

I have been given nearly all my vaccinations. Apart from the BCG (tb) thankfully they stopped it just before my year in school was due to have it!

My son is a year old. He had his 2, 3 and 4 month vaccinations and has just had a booster.

I don't like him having the vaccinations, its hard to watch someone put a needle in my baby, but it only hurts for a second and the alternative - catching the diseases themselves - doesn't bear thinking about.

For those who think that these are just "mild childhood diseases" - I nearly *died* of measles at the age of 5 and my brother was also very very ill with it - we both had very high fevers and dehydration from the vomiting, which necessitated hospitalisation. My health was never the same afterwards. My brother even suffered minor brain damage from it which left him with epilepsy. As a result my son is definitely having the MMR vaccine. I could never put him through we suffered with measles.

My parents were good enough to get me all the usual vaccinations as an infant and the boosters as I started school at 5.

When I was 7-8 years old I went to a boarding prep school. It was school policy that ALL pupils must be vaccinated and so, like the rest of the boys, I was given a complete set of vaccinations a few days after joining. I don't remember all that we were given but I do know that they included DTP, MMR, Polio, Meningitis and BCG. Boys who came from abroad where other diseases were rife also had vaccinations against those too.

Naturally, none of us actually liked having the vaccinations given but we all accepted the need for them, especially in a boarding school. All my children have been vaccinated against everything on the schedule and I also got them the BCG despite it not being on their schedule as I think it important.

My kids get their shots... But I don't always agree with them. Shots like the chicken pox seems a little extreme. I can understand the chicken pox for a child with a serious family history of problems. But not in general. I think in some cases they are slowing our children's immune systems from developing properly by stopping certain illnesses. I also wonder if the vaccines are safe. There was a recall just last week on one. Sad for the kids who got it.
For now my kids will continue. I don't know if its the best or worse choice. I know there are kids from country's without that attend our schools and kids here who have never been. So for some its good my children did receive them. I am mixed on my thoughts.

All of my kids are vaccinated except 1. My youngest son got his needles until he was a year old but since then my doctor has recommended that we hold off because he is showing some signs of autism. He says that we can "catch him up" later. I want to be sure that it wasn't the needles that caused his symptoms.

I am glad the rest have had theirs, some of these diseases are making a comeback and it feels good to know my kids are safe. I don't like having to take them for the needle but, it's easier than dealing with sick kids for days/weeks at a time.

I think everyone should get vaccinations. I don't see the sense in the chickenpox... since it has been known to wear off and make adults vunerable... but thats my opinion. The diseases the children get protected from are much worse than any normal side effects of the shot. Its for your childs protection and everyone else around him/her.

(I was lucky enough not to get the Chickenpox vaccine because I had them as a kid)

Some things, yes, everything, no. Your system will never become strong if you vaccinate yourself or child against everything.

Recalls happen when something's been out for a short time, or long time, only found to be either defective, or destructive somehow. The company recalls them. They take back what's not been used.

I do understand some vaccines and such cause Austism, among a host of other things.

My 14 month old has had all her vaccinations and I made the right decision for us. I do not believe in any link between the vaccines and autism, however if she was a sickly baby I may have thought more carefully and considered single shots. I do not worry when I take her as she has never flinched, in fact she normally giggles (weird baby !!!)

Yeah it's upsetting when they actually get their vaccination, but at the end of the day it's not as upsetting as the diseases there vulnerable to if they don't get their vaccinations, both my kids have had all there injections, including the MMR!

I do not have any of that anxiety because I will not be getting them. For me and my family, I feel that vaccinations are not safe. There is mercury in some of the vaccines that children receive. Some are made from aborted fetal cells. They are not tested for carcinogenic potential. And I am not going to keep my kids in a bubble, but if I can avoid putting known toxins in their bodies, I will. The right to waive the vaccines is important, and I will be using that right.

Have you ever seen the effects of polio on someone, or maybe what the measles can do to a child? How about TB? While some believe there may be a risk with vaccinations, I have seen what the disease can do to a person! Thats not a risk, its a fact! Polio cripples those it doesn't kill! A shot that hurts for a day or two, or dead forever!
