"He is/was good friend of mine...." Nope, don't buy him a present...and do you know why? Because you "have never liked him" and he has loved you forever.
Buying a gift for him will awaken his hopes....
Well, I think simply do what your 'heart' is telling you!

if he is your friend and there is a past giving of Christmas presents then yes, it would be rude not to. HOWEVER, make it impersonal, such as a Christmas card with a gift card to a grocery store. That way it won't seem like you are completely blowing him off forever, but it also clearly states that you consider him a friend, and nothing personal is going to happen.

No you definately shoud NOT! This guy is clearly trying to get over you and if that means that he can't be your friend anymore you need to respect that. Otherwise you are just leading him on which only hurts him more.

That choice is really up to you. Do you consider him to be a close friend of yours? If it was up to me, I would get him a gift, but not a big expencive one. Just a nice little "thanks for being a friend" gift. I HOPE THIS HELPED?!

Don't lead him on. "Just friends" isn't a possibility from what you described.
