There are numerous sleighs in all corners of the UK with collecting boxes being carried by accredited collectors. Do you ask these people where the money goes? Do you know what Rotary International is?

Rotary International is a community service organization made up of professional men and women around the world. Projects can be local, regional, or international in scope. Since 1988, Rotary International has taken on the goal of eradicating polio in the world. To date two billion children have been inoculated, and the infection rate has been cut by 99%.

Rotary was founded in 1905 in Chicago by Paul Harris and three others. Rotary is still based in the USA but has an international reach. Some programs include Ambassadorial scholarships, Peace scholarships, and learning opportunities for teachers. Goodwill projects with members as the catalyst are all around the globe. Clean water projects, medical missions, and projects intended to help children are just a few examples. I will be traveling internationally with Rotary on two projects. First, I will be going to Nepal to assist in a project to aid disabled children. Second, I will be traveling to Guatemala to help build an emergency services station to serve the local people.

I would encourage you to contact a local Rotarian and learn more about the organization. And I would hope you donate to help our projects around the world.

Rotary International just became a registered charity this year. I know that local Rotaries had problems in accessing Lottery funding as it was a US organisation (I think). As such, they are accountable and their accounts are available on the CC website. It's up to people locally to ask collectors where the money is going - although they tend to advertise this while they are collecting.

I recognise the name. Is it something to do with the Lions Club international. Have seen lots of parks as i traveled around Australia and India with this sign on it. But i dont know what they actualy do. I suspect something to do with people that have served for their country.
