If you are using the reel to wind the line from the spool make sure that the line comes off of the spool the same way that it is wound on the reel. This is to prevent the line from twisting and getting kinks once it is on the reel. For a spinning reel the best way is to put the spool of line flat on the floor(vertical) so that the spool does not rotate, and use your fingers to apply tension to the line. If you are winding onto a casting/conventional reel then you want to allow the spool to turn as you are winding the line, the spool should be horizontal. Use a pencil or anything to support the spool, best to have some hold it and they can apply some pressure to the spool and that will properly tension the line on the reel.

A trick that Ive learned over the years, if its hard for you to hold the spool and let it spin freely as you put the line on, is put a little water in a bucket, then put the spool in the water.
Make sure its spinning so that the line is coming off the spool the same way that it went on, otherwise you'll have a mess of twists and tangles.

There's lots of ways to do this firstly you could try the Berkley spooling station which will hold the spool. Also try getting someone to put a pencil through the spool and hold it while you quickly wind it on. Or the last method is one that works well and that is place the spool in a bucket of water, then hold the line as you retrieve it in a cloth, this keeps the tension and removes any moisture without the spool tangling before it even gets to the reel.
This is the spooling station or you may want to get it somewhere else as im unfamilair with this company

For a spinning reel:
1.with reel on rod
2.place spool of line onto the round
3.tie line from spool to reel feeding line through your guides on your rod.
4.with your line between two fingers pressing tight
5.with your line coming off your spool clockwise start too reel line in stop after about ten complete turns
6. check to see when you stop reeling in that your line does not twist between your rod tip and the spool.
7. if you notice line twist turn your spool upside down so opposite side of spool is on the ground so your line is coming off your spool counter clockwise now.
8. reel in about ten more turns of the reel handle check for line twist again. You should not notice any line twist if you do go back to #7 and repeat.
9. fill spool completely but don't over fill.

for a baitcaster reel:
1. rod on reel with line tied to your reel and through your rod guides.
2. put a screwdriver through your spool's center and place screwdriver into vice or have a friend hold it.
3. reel in with your line tightly between your fingers
4. fill spool completely but don't over fill.

put the spool of line on the ground, vertically (so the spool doesnt move), put the line through your guides then tie it to your reel. have the tip of your rod directly above the spool, hold the rod against your stomach and using your free hand hold the line near the closest line to create tension, using your cranking hand, start cranking. make sure the line is going on the reel firmly and is not mushy. thats about it.
