Just ask if Christians should go to war and see how many of the answers are based on the old testament rather than on the teachings of Christ as described in the gospels and practiced in the early church.

I don't know where you come from, but I am Christian & go to a Christian church, & we focus on the New Testament & Jesus, not the old (we do reference & study history through the old though) The Jewish people only concentrate on the Old Testament because they don't believe that Jesus was the Messiah & therfore there's no new doctrine. Every Christian I know focuses more on the New Testament than the Old. And, I've never heard anyone use the Old Testament & George Bush in the same setting.......

Yes, Christians do focus too much on the
Old Testament. And I don't find your question
ridiculous at all.
Had Jesus been in agreement with the
Old Testament, he never would have been
crucified.
Jesus was anti-commandment and anti-temple.
Yet. modern day teachers somehow manage
to mix BC with AD.
There could be a lesson here.
Perhaps, much of Christ's teachings have went
far off course over the past 2000 years.

When you read the Bible many of the references found in the New testament refer to scriptures in the Old testament supporting each other as Testimony from God's Heart to us, both the Old and New Testament contain the Wisdom needed to grow spiritually. Even Jesus would quote Old Testament scripture in my opinion He did so to put emphasis on the fruition of the foundational Wisdom that has been taught since the beginning.

ever notice how the people who take a literal interpretation of the bible quote Old Testament, Letters of Paul, Acts, and Revelation. Few, if ever, quote Gospels (which are the only books on Christ's ministry), and if they do quote Gospels, they never quote what Jesus actually says.

No, the New Testament is actually more popular because a lot of it is more exciting and easier to understand than the old.

While I think it's important to know the History of God and HIS word, I believe that much the same is said in the New Testament as well. Jesus came to clarify the Old Testament and God's Laws. In short, "Jesus IS the OT made NEW."

Fundamentalists seem to put more emphasis on the OT that some of the main line Christian churches.
There are lessons to be learned in both.

No, Christians don't but the atheists on this site,,,sure do love to quote it,,,not understanding that God was showing the Jews that left to their own, they would self destruct...they needed God and every time they failed,,,we learned from them,,, we also learned that without God guiding our lives, we cannot make it. We are a mess without him....their trials and tribulations showed us the way...God does not want us to live under the old laws,,,he wants us to know Grace and Jesus who died for us....

In fact it is the reverse. To many are focusing on the new testament. Both are needed for understanding. One is not obsolete.
