If you're trying to 'pick someone up' you'll need to sell yourself, if you're a funny guy, say something funny, if you're a smart guy, say something smart.
The point is, you need to engage in SOME type of conversation and to do this, you'll just have to step up to the plate and say, Hey my name is... who are you?
