I really need to talk to someone. I thought about talking to my pastor, but I just felt too embarassed. I'm a college student, and barley have any money, so it would be good if it didn't cost very much or was free. It would be great if it was on the phone or something like that. Thank you very much!

New Hope has an on line chat: http://www.newhopenow.org/ or you can call another church in your area and ask to speak to a counselor or if they have a free service. There are many options for free counseling and if the Churches don't have one right now look in the front of your local yellow pages there are many services there that offer free help year round and regardless of religion. Good Luck!

I understand about not wanting to talk to your pastor about various things--you have to face him every Sunday, after all. And sadly, I've seen that some pastors aren't really good at helping people with certain kinds of problems.

No professional counselor is going to provide you with face-to-face or even telephone anonymous counseling, because the legal liabilities are too great. It is very difficult in the U.S. to find free counseling, or even counseling on a sliding scale that is affordable (most sliding scales I know of start at about $40 per session).

Does your school have a counseling service? That's about all I can suggest without knowing more about your circumstances.

And there's another, even more important point. I used to work as a psychotherapist until I became a Christian a few years ago. The Holy Spirit instructed me that psychology is something Christians shouldn't be involved in. I suspect psychology has been something that has caused you more problems in your life than it has provided solutions.

That is not to say that Christians don't have problems; they do, sometimes serious ones. It does mean though, that the real solutions to our problems come from the healing and forgiveness that Jesus made available to us through his sacrificial death. I truly believe all the answers and power and strength you need are available to you through Him.

Talk to the health clinic or mental health clinic on your campus. That should be a good start for you.
Or, if you want Christian counseling and for some reason don't feel you can talk to your own pastor, call a church near you and ask to talk to their minister. You don't have to be a member of a particular church in order to talk to their guy.
Good luck.
