What exactly does being saved mean? I need a better explanation than accepting Jesus Christ as your personal saviour. I would appreciate any insight into this phenomena, particularly from a Baptist viewpoint.

Romans 10:

. . . 9 because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. . . . 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him. 13 For, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’

Godspeed.

Being saved means that Jesus is now your God, and you are saved from your sinful nature and from the depths of eternal death. Yes, you must accept Jesus as your Savior, but it is so much more than that. Many say they are saved, yet we dont see any change. You start growing in the Lord once you are saved. Personally, I realized all that He does for me. I no longer see it as a chore to read the Bible. I cleaned up my act. It isnt easy, and Jesus never said it was. But it is so worth it.
My dad is a Southern Baptist preacher, but I dont understand why a Baptist viewpoint would matter more. You are either a Christian or you are not. God cares not about which denomination.

The question is what are we being saved from? Do I need to be saved? The answer is yes. We need to be saved from the holy wrath of God. As sinners, you and I have rebelled against a holy, perfect and sinless God. How have we rebelled? We have committed acts such as lying, cheating, stealing, murder, hatred, lust, etc... The truth of the matter is that you may not be such a "bad" person compared to some of the "real" criminals of our society. But the fact is that we have sinned. Simply, that makes us sinners. At the very core of our being, sin is a part of our nature. Here's an example that I love to use: Parents don't have to sit their little child down and teach them how to lie. They already know how to do it automatically.

Sin, no matter how big or small, is a serious offense to God. It is an offense that is worthy of God's righteous judgment. We all deserve the punishment that is due to us. This punishment is eternal separation from God in Hell. Before I was saved, I committed sinful acts which I am very sorry for. I still reap the consequences of my decisions everyday. I have paid my debt to society but, even today, I cannot fully repay that debt to God. I will never be able to repay God for the wrongs I have done. Only Jesus Christ has been able to do that. He lived a perfect, sinless life before he took my sin (and yours as well) and died on the cross. Trusting in Jesus to be my sin-bearer and substitute has given me forgiveness and eternal life. I have escaped the fires of Hell I so deserved and now I am enjoying the rich mercy of God.

Friend, I ask you to trust in Jesus today and be saved.

Being saved means that you accept the atoning blood of Jesus Christ. By following God's law, which is the 10 Commandments, you acknowledge this acceptance and allow God's spirit to mold you into the person God wants you to be. It's not as simple as saying I accept Jesus. You must follow God's law to be saved. There is no scripture to support denominations in God's Church. Therefore, there is no "Baptist viewpoint." There is only God's viewpoint; and from God's viewpoint, you must follow His law. Otherwise, you are a transgressor of the law, which means you are yet in your sins.

There is no doubt about it, a lot of you people don,t have a clue about what being saved is all about.TRUE, believing in Jesus is having faith that he is who he said he was and that being God,s answer that leads us or puts us on the road of life. But thier is a large audience out there who feel once saved always saved, and it simply not true.NOTE please what Hebrews10:26-31. (in part) If we practice sin willfully after having received the accurate knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left, but rather a fearful expectation of judgement (etc) note for your self the rest of the text. YOU READ IT. Bottom line>Accept Jesus and then OBEY him in every thing. One of the biggest test of our love for him is to STOP pretending that SEX is ok, its not.The bible is very clear when it say's that fornicators WILL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM. So all those who feel once saved is alway's saved, get away from them, they are bad associate;s and they will reap what they sow.

, "Are you saved?" "As the Bible says, I am already saved (Rom. 8:24, Eph. 2:5–8), but I’m also being saved (1 Cor. 1:8, 2 Cor. 2:15, Phil. 2:12), and I have the hope that I will be saved (Rom. 5:9–10, 1 Cor. 3:12–15). Like the apostle Paul I am working out my salvation in fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12), with hopeful confidence in the promises of Christ (Rom. 5:2, 2 Tim. 2:11–13)."

I don't really know how to explain it well, except to say that it is a heart change and you believe that Jesus is your saviour not as a mental assent but rather with your whole self. Does that make sense? I mean I'm sure you've had many experiences, just like everyone has, where something you've accepted as true in your mind becomes true in your heart because of experience. Suddenly, 'don't put all your eggs in one basket' --- something you heard your mother say but never experienced --- becomes heart wrenchingly true to you. Do you know what I'm saying?

It's not *just* praying the sinner's prayer. (In fact, I didn't pray that at all the night I got saved --- God comes to people in totally unique ways, He meets them where they need to be met). Let me say that before I was a Christian, I think I realized dimly that Jesus was the way to salvation. But it wasn't until I *met* Him (not in the flesh, though I believe that some do) that it made sense in my heart and changed my life. I certainly don't count myself a Christian before that day because scriptures say that even the demons believe in God and tremble. There's a big difference between that and knowing it in your heart and loving Him.

Does that make more sense?

I'm not a Baptist, but I'm southern, so trust me sister, I've been to many Baptist church. ;)

Being saved means you are delivered from the consequences of you sin, as right now you are in one of two spiritual conditions, dead in sins or alive in Christ; traveling on one of two paths, the broad way that leads to everlasting destruction or the narrow way that leads to everlasting life; heading for one of two eternal places, the Lake of Fire or the Heavenly City (Eph. 2:1; Mt. 7:14; 1Thes. 1:8-10; Rev. 20-22).

The Only Way you can have your sins forgiven and get back to God is through the Lord JESUS CHRIST, whom the Father sent to save you (Acts 4:12; 13:39; 1Jn. 4:10, 14).

It is He who came down from Heaven to live a completely sinless and perfect life, showing us what God is like in His love and righteousness. And it is He who took responsibility for all we have done wrong, paying for our sins with His own sinless blood on the cross of His death. And having done all, it is He who rose from the dead to Heaven as your present Savior and future Judge (Act 10:39-43).

You are here to choose between darkness and light, between worship of things created, or the Creator. And you are not really living until you are born spiritually by the life-giving Spirit of Christ.

May you give your sins and life to Him, humbly asking and trusting Him to save you, with a contrite heart, and giving your heart to Him.

Baptist church member here...being saved means that your soul will be spared from the second death. Each of us will die a physical death, but not all of us will face the second death, eternal separation from God. When you believe upon Jesus Christ with a child like faith, meaning you don't have to see it or have it proven to you, you CHOOSE to believe it, then He will pay the price for all of the sins you have ever committed and all of the sins that you will commit in the future. Once you admit that you are a sinner, repent of your sins, and recieve Christ's gift of salvation, you will receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will stay with you until you die and will guide you in truth. You are now saved from the second death. Hope that helps!

Being saved is like taking an easy pill that cures all, even future ailments. It's a recent development that ignores the Book of James and makes going to haven dependent upon telling God where we are going after life rather than God passing judgment.

If you accept Jesus as your Savior, you will be saved from death and Hades (Hell).

The wages of sin is death.

Jesus took away sin on the Cross. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that who so ever believes on Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

You lost everlasting life when sin brought death in when Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden.
