They had ear mites and were treated with Revolution for 4 months. The vet says they shouldn't have any more but the 3 of them still shake their heads and scratch their ears all the time. I called this morning and told this to the vet tech and she says that it would be impossible for the 3 of them to have an ear infection at the same time. This problem has been going on for too long now. I did make an appointment with the vet for monday morning, I was just wondering in the meantime because it's driving me crazy seeing them itch all the time and I would really like for this problem to get resolved. I've seen 3 different vets for this when they had the ear mites.

They had also had an URI awhile ago.
The last treatment of Revolution that I gave was the 21st of November.

2 of the vets were at the same practice.
The other was a house call vet.

The bacteria which causes ear infections are not contagious. However its not impossible that they all caught it at the same time.
What is contagious is the upper respiratory infections that can LEAD to ear infections.
Also, how long ago did you stop the revolution.
They could just have dry ears, and giving them ear drops until it stops could help.

If you stopped the mite medicine less then 1 month ago, it could be their ears are dry.
The good ear drops are just a couple of dollars at the pet store. You could also think about taking them to the vet to have them clean the gunk out of the ears so they are nice and clear after having all of that medicine in them...

3 different vets at the same practice? I would go to another practice altogether. It certainly isn't impossible for 3 cats to have an ear infection at the same time, that's nonsense. It depends what pathogen is causing the infection - if it's a contagious one and the cats are close and groom each other a lot it's entirely possible for them to pass infection around.

You can't always rely on Revolution to clear up ear mites, it depends how bad the problem was in the first place. Do you see black gunk down your cat's ears? This would be a sign of ear mites - you may need ear drops rather than Revolution. There is a possibility it isn't mites at all, in which case Revolution will be doing nothing. It could bacterial, fungal or even an allergy. Strongly advise going to another vet practice!

remember that a vet tech is not a vet. it is not impossible for them to have ear infections at the same time. you are doing the right ting by going to the vet. a few tiems i have seen cats who had ear mites and just developed the habit of shaking their heads even after the mites were gone. in most cases however (at least the ones that i saw) the habit will slowly stop after a few months to a year. goos luck i hope your kitties are okay and keep up the good work whoever said that their ears might be dry could be correct too but you are doing the right thing by going to the vet

each and every now and then cats will produce an a techniques extra advantageous than ear wax, it somewhat is a brownish sticky substance. The vet can be certain if there are mites recent microscopically. An animal will scratch at their ears whilst there is extra wax recent, whether there are no mites. I easily have a cat and a canine who create extra ear wax, yet have not got mites. The wax is uncomfortable, and that they scratch at it. i exploit an over the counter ear cleanser approximately as quickly as each and every week, this seems to assist save the itching under administration. They like it once I sparkling their ears, it feels good to get that wax out of there.

Yes, definitely! Ear infections can be infectious and I must tell you, get them checked out by a vet asap. They can be quite severe sometimes and quite painful to your cats.
