I find it grotesque. Making kids unconditionally love something abstract that they cant even know exists, it must really mess with their head. Kids should be taught to make judgements with their senses. (But Im still gonna try it on Halle Berry if I ever meet her)

Here is a cut and paste of a previous response to endive0 :
endavis... I think we ( Atheists) get it ! You are in a feeling of love with God / Jesus . But we feel that you simply have an immature crush on something that really doesn't exist . Perhaps like a character in a book or movie . I sure it "feels" real to you . We just point out that this person or entity is a fictional one . Sort of like the cheerleader in Heros or Buffy on BTVS ( the TV shows ) . Someday you may realize the truth and be mad at yourself for wasting so much time on it . I think the religions like to get hold of budding adolescents and turn their natural hormone burst of energy and insecurity towards their 'god' and away from those 'sinful' relations with real people .Lot's of (needy) people "Fall in Love" with lying con artists on the internet also . Always lots of 50 year old guys pretending to be handsome 15 year olds ! Ask for proof before ( continuing to) give your self away .

You noted:(it must really mess with their head. Kids should be taught to make judgements with their senses.)
May I suggest to all out there that you're not perceiving "God's Plan for man" in the correct manner. I would respect someone more who believes in "Loving all mankind" no matter what the situation. If you can't learn to forgive you'll never succeed with "Love." Best thing I can advise and you may want to ask the elders here who are steering you in a negative direction, to honestly tell you of the success in their lives. The best way I can prove to you that God does exist and does Love all mankind is through my own experiences and success, and happiness I carry with me throughout my life.
The thing you all have to consider is, "What if God does exist and DID say that we are obligated to LOVE the creator who created us all and our world?" What if we are to love and forgive everyone here on earth no matter what the circumstance is? What if by following HIS commands/Laws/Bibles, we will be granted an eternity after this short life, with God in a place many times better, with no hatred, no sin and no Hell? Are you prepared to give that all up just for a little freedom to do what God calls sin? Funny thing is, I haven't had to relinquish anything in my life for God's promises. Actually, I gained much more. No more sadness. No more depression. No more following others to areas I didn't want to go. No fear or man ! No fear of Death.
If you satisfied with your answer to your own question and the answers of those here , so be it. I would have more respect for someone and think them more intelligent if they found happiness and contentment of God on their own investigation. Just having more people agree with you doesn't make your answer correct. Your life does!

Kids will naturally love anything or anyone with kindness and love in their hearts. Including an abstract God.

Get 'em while they're young I guess... personally I find it grotesque as well. Kids don't know what the hell they're doing. It's not fair.

Yes it's grotesque.

And, "compulsory love" is an oxymoron.
